Hi all

Any thoughts on the build below? Besides the CM 212x CPU cooler being a tight fit I think this should be a nifty little build. Feel free to comment or suggest anything.
I've got an existing 2TB drive which I'll be throwing into this once I get it as well as a 240GB Sandisk ultra II SSD for OS and 3 Corsair 120AF fans to help with the cooling as it's going to be a tight build. Adding 1 fan each to the front and base for intake and 1 on the top for exhaust.
Modular PSU to limit Airflow restrictions from cables

May or may not look into some light overclocking too.

With the choices you would be as well with a pre-overclocked system. That way the OC is covered under support/warranty etc.

I would probably go with a bigger case to allow for better CPU cooling and airflow though.

Just FYI, that's not a Ti you have selected. Just in case you think that price includes a Ti GPU.

Thanks for your thoughts. I amended the quote and forgot to change specs I posted to the TI. Definitely getting one though. The extra performance justifys the extra cost.

I've also got a massive NZXT Phantom case from my last build which I'll be keeping. Couldn't justify the cost of another massive case when I've got this beast just sitting in a cupboard. Could be a fun project in a few years to transfer it over.

You're going to be cramming 2 high heat generators into a very confined spacing using a mediocre cooler though. I wouldn't personally be going ahead with such choices but it's entirely your choice. I just want you to be aware that it's not a good combination.

I would personally be looking around the Define S sort of range.

Haha. Biscuit tin. As I said I've got the NZXT Phantom 410 already . I'll eventually be transferring into that case (sooner probably now that you've pointed out the space issue) which has plenty of space so the biscuit tin is temporary and more of a glorified shipping container

When I transfer over I'll look into a better aftermarket cooler. I'd prefer an air cooler. Any suggestions on models?

Just send your case in and save the money/hassle. For an air cooler definitely the Noctua they offer at a minimum, I prefer the larger model but it's as good as it gets for air on here. My cooler of choice from the options here is the H100i V2 with the silent fans. Personally I'm looking at a H115i for the larger radiator etc. I'm most likely going for the Skylake-X though so I need all the cooling help I can get :D

No kidding: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/-intel-skylake-x-overclocking-thermal-issues,5117.html

Maybe wait and see if that rumour of them being relaunched later on with soldered IHS turns out to be true, if you don't fancy delidding yourself. You may have seen the H115 was heavily discounted on a certain site today...

@ Banjoe - I'd strongly agree with the suggestion to send in your case. It will save the hassle of transferring things yourself and just makes more sense overall.

The CM212x would be fine for cooling a stock 7700k in all honesty. However, if you are going to do some overclocking I would definitely suggest a better cooler. The Noctua would be a great choice, however it won't fit as far as I know. The H100i V2 would therefore be well worth a look. A bit more budget but still quite adequate (same ballpark as the Noctua afaics) would be the CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240.

Yeah it doesn't make for good reading. Initially I thought the higher end ones were automatically going to be soldered. Delidding doesn't bother me normally but not with a £500+ CPU :D

I didn't notice any deals on the H115, care to PM me the site? Cheapest I have seen is around £120.

Too late, it was a lightning deal, sub £100 iirc. Still if you keep your eyes open it may appear. Plus £20 in the context of a £2500 PC is probably not the end of the world.

Shame. I would have just bought it now regardless of when I was getting the system :D
