Malwarebytes is probably the best program out for detecting malware,adware,and spyware,and it's also free.
Removing, not detecting. The real time protection offered in the pro version is abysmal.
Right now, AVG is the best for detection rates, followed closely by Panda Cloud and Norton. Panda Cloud Pro is my choice, the built-in firewall is excellent.
Ones to avoid now: Avira, McAfee.

It needs to be detected before it can be removed,and Malwarebytes is excellent at doing just that in my experience.

Not so. I'll explain it.
You go to a malicious URL which will download malware, but the antivirus blocked it. That is detected, not removed.
Many antivirus products claim to remove an infection upon detection, but actually do not, or remove only part of it. This is quite common with zero-day malware.
So, Malwarebytes is excellent at removing malware on an already infected system, but the detection and prevention offered in the real time monitor is terrible. This is why many security professionals advise using Malwarebytes only as a companion to your antivirus.
Example of a good setup: AVG + Malwarebytes + firewall. Other software like Winpatrol are great additions too.

I agree entirely,that's why I use Microsoft Security Eessentials+Malwarebytes+Windows Firewall,I've never had a problem with that setup.

I'm not trying to convert anyone either,just giving an opinion based on my own experience.I will consider changing to something else if I do encounter any issues,but it's been fine for 2 years now.
Have some rep for your opinion though,food for thought.

I believe it is just the anti-virus (they have two paid versions that are full suites) I haven't used it as I just bought another Kaspersky but a free anti-virus is better than none.

So essentially what you guys are saying is that its best to have a few different ones working in conjunction with eachotehr for different roles?
Using that AV Test site (which is actually quite nice for someone like me who has limited knowledge of these things and is looking for a decent comparison)
If i Used BitDefender (Av Tests' Top product for protection, repair and still high score for usability (almost maximum score!)) with Malwarebytes as well as the built in firewalls (both the one with windows and the one built into my router) i should have a pretty secure system?
I'm going to stick with kaspersky atm as its free for me, plus its reviews on there are still very good..
But i will certainly take onboard the advise of putting a sort of "Security Team" of programs like that for when my new machine arrives

But a little extra info.. BitDefender are currently doing a promotional offer and ALL their security suite packages are £29
(a saving of upto £25)

I think your only supposed to have one anti-virus working at a time, maleware/spyware is different not all anti-virus software will remove it some will some won't. These normally come as "internet security" etc rather than just a plain old "anti-virus".

BitDefender as the main program with Firewall enabled, then the Malwarebytes setup to do a scan either on-demand or once a week so its acting as a secondary program.
I didnt mean to run something like Bitdefender and Kaspersky at the same time (sorry if i wasnt clear!)

Use only one antivirus and one firewall, and one or two companions. Here is a excellent setup, and my personal favourite:

Extremely lightweight, great detection rates. Upgrade to pro if you'd like to use the firewall, it is worth it. (Ignore the next one if you do)

+1,using more than one anti-virus program will cause conflicts,and could cause your system to become unstable.
An an anti-malware program like malwarebytes is not an antivirus program but can detect issues most anti-virus programs will ignore.

No need to be sorry I just didn't want you to spend your money on two different anti-virus programs. Your're quite right there is no problems running Malwarebytes with a anti-virus.

Just to be clear, you must only ever run one real-time antivirus program, ie. one that hooks into the OS and keeps you safe whilst working. It is perfectly fine to have as many on-demand-scanner tools (like Malwarebytes) as you like - as long as you only run one at a time of course.
