Hello all
My 6-year old i7 [email protected], 6GB RAM, GTX295 is now becoming unbearable to use with Maya and Ableton Live etc. I think the HD is slowly failing and the GPU is screwed but half-working. No point in only upgrading certain parts as it's all so old. I am strongly thinking of the below build after initially favouring a 4970k because Maya only uses multiple cores in the rendering stage, it's cheaper and faster stock speed per core, lower TDP. But after much research I'm convinced an 5820k is the best choice, especially once overclocked. 6-core rendering would be much better, but power bill and initial payment will be higher. I don't want to buy an OK system just to upgrade later - buying cheap is more expensive in the long run. I want this to last me another 3-5 years or so. I don't think waiting for Skylake is an option as only the 4-cores are released in August (I think), and no way can I wait another year or so for the hex-cores. As they say - I'd be waiting forever, constantly seeing what the next gen would be.
A few queries in bold below:
Case
FRACTAL DEFINE R5 BLACK QUIET MID-TOWER CASE - will this have sufficient airflow and such? I expect so.
Overclocked CPU
Overclocked Intel® Six Core i7-5820K (3.3GHz @ MAX 4.4GHz)
Motherboard
ASUS® X99-S: ATX, HSW-E CPU, USB 3.0, SATA 6 GB/s - I might be needing wifi at some point, so paying an extra £23 over the x99-A seems a no-brainer. Stupid question - but I won't need a Wifi card then right?
Memory (RAM)
32GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DDR4 2400MHz (4 x 8GB) Many also say 32GB ram is overkill, but i do multitask a lot, and won't ever run out of RAM...still too much though? I know 16GB is the minimum for my line of work.
Graphics Card
6GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 980 Ti - 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, 3 DP - (PRE-ORDER ONLY) Some say the GTX 980ti is overkill for a workstation because rendering only uses CPU, and in the viewports past a certain point the CPU becomes the bottleneck, not the GPU - so most opt for a GTX 970 which is in this sweet spot. But it seems that GPU rendering is slowly becoming more used, and for this a 980ti will shine. So, is it worth going for a 980ti over a 970? A lot more money, but I don't want to regret a 970, and want to stay far away from SLi (adding another 970 later)
1st Hard Disk
500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
2nd Hard Disk
1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1003FZEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET This build's max power draw would be 584W. Is 66W enough headroom with overclocking etc?
Processor Cooling
Corsair H60 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Would this cooler be sufficient and is it pre-installed? I only have to add water one time once the PC's delivered, or...? Clueless about water cooling.

ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

Finally, I am using 2 LCD monitors, a Samsung 24" and a Dell 2407WFp, both connected via DVI. GTX970/980ti only has 1 DVI. Are those HDMI-DVI cables all I will need to hook the one monitor up (the other going direct DVI)? I didn't see one amongst the cable selection.
Sorry about the lengthy post, and thanks for reading.
