I configured this laptop with my friend who knows computers. I just want to be sure I can do schoolwork and games like cod black ops 2 and 3 (when it comes out). Im also looking to play far cry and such so it should be able to do heavy-ish gaming. Thanks.

For your budget I would try to get at least the gtx 960m. 8gb ram will be fine and the ssd is not essential and in my view not as important as a better gpu if it is mainly for gaming

Thanks for you advice, I changed my ram down to 8gigs and upgraded my CPU, but will I be able to play games like gta V and cod smoothly? I also feel ssd's are useful so in going to get one, what do you think about replacing the hard drive with a hybrid, Keynes?

I meant replacing the gpu not CPU. What is your new spec?

A 960m gaming laptop should cost just under £850

A 970m gaming laptop should cost about £1100

A 980m gaming laptop should cost about £1350

Your budget should ideally fit one of these boundaries.

Having a £1000 budget and deciding to spend it all isn't ideal because you'll end up spending £150 more than you really need on extras that aren't necessary. But the fact you're choosing to spend £1000 on a gaming laptop that only has a 950m is a very poor choice. If I was you i'd spend £850 and get a 960m Optimus. Or save up another £100 and get a 970m laptop.

How much is that? If you're buying an ssd then an sshd is pointless as the other drive. Get a regular Scorpio black

Around £1025, and without an sshd is £1011, should I get a Scorpio black or blue? Also (sorry for bombarding you with questions) is a quad core CPU with 2.60gh/s better than a duel core 2.90gh/s, does the gh/s matter?

Quad always better. Get Scorpio black, it's faster.

Have you checked out the review Optimus for £850?

I'd rather get the 17 inch. How about these, I got them from what you've told me:
