wireless problems on new PC

hi guys,

i have just recieved my new PC, and everythings great. i love it. (pics will be up soon)
i am just having a small problem with trying to connect my new PC to the wireless network.

i have attatched the 2 wireless recievers (the long plastic things in the welcome box) to the back of the PC, inserted the disc for the wireless, and it takes a while installing stuff, but then it asks me to select the wireless network that i want to connect to, and there are none on the list. the computer is definately in range of the wireless network, it just won't find it (or any other around it - there are plenty along my road that the laptop i am using now can find).

i think this is a problem with the wireless card as there are 2 small lights on the wireless card next to the recievers and neither of them are lighting up (i would assume at least one of them would be flashing or something like that)
Possibly not getting any power??

thanks in advance,
Slurpak

p.s. i do not blame you pcs for the problem with my new pc. i know alot of new pcs will have problems when you first get them (teething problems as i like to call them) and im glad its only a small problem like this.

I'd suggest unintsalling any software that came with the card - just install drivers - and see how you get on. Windows - especially Vista and W7 - is much better at handling network connections than any third-party apps I've come across.

It's possible the card has just become dislodged slightly whilst in transit, so you might want to try removing it and then reseating it properly.

thanks rakk, but ive also tried that and it looked fine. i didn't remove it and re-seat it, but it looked and felt like it was in properly. i will try taking it out and reseating it tomorrow. atm im just installing crysis coz i wanna give the new beast a test drive :)

lol, you have your priorities :)

Let us know how you get on with removing/reseating the Wireless Card. I reckon it will get it up and running, it only takes the slightest movement to stop it working - damn DHL! :D

The only other thing i can think of (that might help someone else reading this thread later) is that the wireless router isn't set to broadcast the ssid. In that case you won't see anything in the list and need to manually create a new wireless network which allows you to enter both the ssid and and wep/wap key.

but as you say the lack of lights suggest no power to the card - at least games work ! :)

there was a thread osmewhere where someone had changed the values of the TX settings I think and tested agina and again until tehy got optimum signal. They also showed how when setting them to one setting they got no signal at all. Ill try find teh thread

In this scenario i would be making a manual wireless profile with all the settings in including the SSID. I would also log onto the router to make sure that the SSID is being broadcast or confirm that it isnt. Make you sure you go through the routers security config with a fine tooth comb, its not uncommon for the security type to mismatch or even on some routers to have a mac address whitelist.
