Wireless Card Problem - N2230

Hi

Just want to ask some advice, have got a Vortex laptop, bought back in July 2012 which has a Wireless N 2230 WiFi card inside it. I have noticed recently that the wireless connection is becoming more and more erratic in terms of speed etc.

The connection speed drops from 300Mbps very quickly down to 144Mbps and then will vary up and down and often goes as low as 1Mpbs which naturally makes the connection unusable.

A disable of the device and re-enable will bring it back to 144Mbps again but then the process will begin over again.

I have updated the drivers to the very latest ones and have checked connection to the router with another laptop side by side and it is remaining between 270 and 300Mpbs.

Am I thinking along the lines that the card is beginning to fail? If so, I can see that I can by a new part from PCS via my account and they have the N6300 (450Mbps Dual Band) for £32 roughly delivered and the AC7260 HMC (867Mbps Dual Band)or £17 roughly delivered.

Which would be the best option to go for, I only have 300Mbps on my router.

Thanks

Paul

Benefits of the AC model is that it is better future proofing and will work fine on your current 300mbs router.

Personally I'd go for the AC.

Are you having these problems just on battery or when the charger is plugged in?

The reason I ask is that both myself and my wife were having connection problems over wifi. It turned out to be a problem with Windows 8.1 messing about with the wifi card power supply on both our laptops.

I had recently changed my power profile to balanced and this is when I started experiencing problems although it took me a while to notice as my laptop is usually kept plugged in.

With the age of your laptop I'm aware that you're probably running Windows 7 but it's something to try yourself.
