wi-fi range extenders

I have a set of D-Link homeplugs. 3 plugs, one with wi-fi. My house is quite long and the wi-fi wasn't reaching the living room so I ordered a set of these and they are excellent. I put the wi-fi plug in the living room and started a second network covering the back half of the house and I also plugged the smart TV into it. The other plug I put in the front room for the PS3. The third plug being with the router of course. :)

Not sure how I got by without them.

Amazon don't stock my model any more but I see the have a newer faster model:

There may be better ones of course but I've had no problem with my D-Links and would recommend them.

I have an older version of the tp link one.
My bedroom used to be out of range of the router so I found it really useful, however when we got BT Infinity the router moved close enough to give me a full strength wifi. Since then the signals seemed to clash - when I had the adapter turned on (in my bedroom) I would lose all wifi connectivity on phone, laptop, etc.
So I moved it to the other side of the house where the router only sends out 1 bar of signal, the adapter does give a perfect boost in signal there.

They are good though, with a bit of tweaking in the settings you can set it up with the same wifi name & password as your router so as you go around the house it automatically chooses whichever gives the best signal.

morning,
I am thinking of buying some wifi extenders to improve connectivity around my house. Anyone got any experience using those? recommended brand/model?

I've been looking at these for the last month, mainly the AV500 and wifi 300 variants, my main gripe however is that the touted "500" still suffers the marketing blasphemy of only meaning 250Mbps up + 250Mbps down but otherwise the £60 pricepoint is tempting. In addition keep an eye out for the "up to" blurb as another failure is that they don't appear to be gigabit ethernet links into the units so you're not guaranteed at any rate to reach the 25MB wholesale when in use (depending on your home wiring).

Normally I'd go all the same brand for ensured compatibility, however Belkin Gbps units have been heavily reduced on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Powe...-1000mbps/dp/B0046MKOOK/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header and from these you can pop your wifi adapter of choice - always worth noting that any speed is predicated on your home wiring and powerline is always a mixed bag depending on that factor, so always keep the receipt in case it doesn't work out!

Just my opinion of course :)
