Hi

Who here is using Macrium Reflect V6 on windows 10 desktop computer?

How do you tell windows 10 to boot from a usb3 external hard disk?

Do new desktop pcs which have windows8 or 10 installed allow you to choose the startup drive?

I run Macrium Reflect on Windows 10 without issue. You don't use the Windows 10 recovery screen to boot a Macrium Reflect restore system though.

You need to open Macrium Reflect and click on the Other Tasks menu item and then Create Rescue Media. From there you can make a bootable USB stick or DVD that contains the Macrium Reflect recovery system. I used my external backup drive and wrote the Macrium Reflect recovery system to that, so I just boot my external USB drive and up comes the Macrium Reflect recovery system.

To boot from an external disk you'll need to see what BIOS options you have. On my Optimus IV laptop pressing F7 on boot brings up a boot menu, so I just select my USB disk and boot that (so it boots to the Macrium Reflect recovery system of course). If your BIOS doesn't support a boot menu just put the external USB drive (or whatever drive you wrote the Macrium Reflect recovery system to) ahead of the HDD/SSD in the boot order.

Hi

My laptop (with windows 10) doesn't allow me to access the bios via a F key. There is no boot menu key also.

If I buy a new desktop computer with windows 10 installed I will want a computer that allows me to access the boot menu via an F key.

Does any one here know if its possible for windows 10 to allow me to use a boot menu to access backup usb3 hard disk.

From reading this web page?

It looks like all new windows8 laptops have changed the way you access the bios & boot menu?

thanks

I've not tried this yet (I'm just experimenting with it now) but you can use the Other Tasks option in Macrium Reflect to create a Windows boot option menu item for the Macrium Reflect recovery system. Each time you boot you'll be able to select either Windows or Macrium Reflect Recovery. That should suit your needs.

Edit: Yep it works. After setting this up in Macrium Reflect, on booting Windows 10 you get a GUI option showing both Windows 10 and Macrium Reflect Recovery for 10 seconds. Selecting the Reflect option boots Reflect recovery as expected.

I liked to use my f8 key to access the boot menu on my desktop computer to restore image files.
Can someone from PCS confirm if windows10 desktops allow you to access the bios/bootmenu using F keys?

thanks

So if I choose to buy a desktop gaming computer with windows 7 installed from PCS. Will the bios support boot menu using a F key?

What happens if the hard disk becomes corrupted (using window 10), you will not be able to load recovery software?

Most recovery software is loaded outside of windows on it's own boot.

Windows 7 will always have the F8 option.

Are the windows 10 desktop gaming pcs using the new bios/boot menu system (i.e. you can only access them from within windows 8 or 10?)
