For gaming only I would consider a different spec from the ones you posted, what type of general use? The FX-4170 is likely to bottleneck the GTX 670, if it is mainly for gaming you wouldn't benefit from an i7.

Your first build looks pretty good to me,for gaming you want the best graphics card you can afford, and the 670 is up there with the best,I don't think the AMD FX-4170 will bottleneck the 670 at all unless playing really intensive CPU games, and even then it might not be all that noticeable.

I've made some changes, it's a little more than I wanted to pay as I've still got to get the monitor, keyboard ect but I'm quite happy with this. I would'nt mind downgrading the motherboard if possible as it may bring the price down a little and am I right in saying the i5 doesn't hyper thread? what do you think ?.?

Wow you were a little quick for me there to edit my post after I forgot to add the spec :)

The next motherboard (P8Z77-V LX) on the list is cheaper and it has more expansion slots. I wouldn't worry about cooling with the case you have chosen, I wouldn't add extra case fans. You could consider a caviar black as the main drive.
