I'm planning on ordering a new laptop from PCS soon (Optimus V), and I've heard people have had a lot of problems with the Intel wireless card. Is it worth paying the extra £23 for the Killer one or is the problem easily fixed?

I have the killer 1202 and I highly recommend the card, no issues at all with wireless connection. I don't have any experience with the intel wireless card but if you can afford it I'd go with the killer card.
If I were ordering again I'd go for the Killer. I had my Intel wifi card replaced by PCS (and it didn't cure the problem 100%) I suspect it might be a Windows 8 issue.
