I you are going to get rid of the PC than I would make sure that you clean the hard drive and re install your OS. Remember if you just delete your data or indeed format the hard drive, it is not difficult for someone to recover the files . I would use Darik's Boot And Nuke from here:

It's not so bad. It looks just 1 to three years old. But the general look and performance does matter anyway.
