I have the msi 780 oc, I was going to buy another to sli but do I sell this and buy 2 msi 970 as they are faster and kinda cheap or buy 1 msi 980 and sli in the future?

Why do you want to upgrade? The 780 will perform fine so I would wait until the next generation of cards to come out before upgrading.

well I want to sli but i can't find any msi 780's in stock and on ebay they are going for around £255-£290. Also the new card use less power so that my main reason but I could sell my 780 and buy 2 new 970's (2× £275) as I was going to spend £270 any way, or I could sell the 780 and then buy 1 980 (£469) But only really costing £219 if I sold my 780.

Unless you want to run 3 screens I wouldn't bother with SLI. If you wish to SLI it doesn't have to be the same brand.
