What old items I can reuse on new spec?

Hi everyone!

I am planning to build a new computer (see NEW SPEC below) but I want to reuse a few relatively new items from my old computer (see OLD SPEC below). However, when it comes to compatibility, I am no pro.

For me it is important to know there is no risk of damage as in poor power supply, overheat, etc., and even technical problems with space or not enough connectors. Who can help? :)

ITEMS FROM OLD SPEC
Graphics Card: 1x Asus AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics Card (1GB, PCI-Express, GDDR5, Dust-proof Fan)
Additional Hard Disk: 1x Kingston Technology 480GB Solid State Drive V300 SATA 3 Upgrade Bundle Kit with Adapter
Additional RAM: 4x HP, 1-GB PC2-6400 (DDR2 800 MHz) DIMM , AH058AT

FULL NEW SPEC
Case: PCS ALPHA TRION 7622B BLACK CASE
Processor: (CPU) AMD FX-8370 Eight Core CPU (4.00-4.30GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+)

Intended use? You could use the ssd and GPU but if it is for gaming, depending on your budget, you may want to consider a different spec

Intended use is video editing and what I would descirbe as "intermediate gaming" (no high end spec with high resolutions).
As long as I can run a FPS game like Far Cry 3/4 or an open word game like GTV IV at 1024 or 1280 with no stutter, I am happy.

Would you say reusing the graphics card I have is not worth the hassle?

Budget is £500.
What would you change in my spec?

Hi,

As with the above comments you could re-use the graphics card and SSD but the RAM is not any use to you.

In relation to video editing, do you know if the programs you use support CUDA for Nvidia cards and/or OpenCL for Nvidia or ATI cards? GPU support is quite common with video editing packages now and can massively reduce the processing times. If those tools support OpenCL for ATI then you could use your existing card for this work.

I would e tempted to look at as good an i3 build as you can afford instead. The FX processors are very long in the tooth now. Having the newer motherboards and latest chips will use far less power and offer better longevity in my opinion. Your other option is an AMD APU, which could be 'cross-fired' with your existing GPU.

Considering you already have a SSD I don't see much value in buying another one in the new build. The other thing you might consider is whether you actually need a DVD RW drive any more. So many games are bought as electronic downloads and you would be surprised how little people need an optical drive nowadays. Or perhaps you can cascade the old one over and put the £15 or so elsewhere on the new build?

In terms of gaming I can't say how well your current GPU could play the games you mention but if you are happy with it for now you can save up for something better in the near future. I like both ATI and Nvidia but I prefer Nvidia, particularly for home use. The new 10xx series cards are going to be worth the wait but of the current range the GTX750ti and GTX960 offer great performance per £ for the mid card range.

My two pence worth.
