Hi guys, I'm currently updating my desktop and now also thinking about doing the same with my laptop.

How much do you think I need to be spending for a decent grade laptop i.e able to game on it, such games like WoW, MW3, BF3, Shotgun2?? Multi tasking like streaming films/vids and playing med-high spec games?

If you come up with a price for me could you also leave the spec

Thanks in advance, this website has been very useful to me so far for helping me to find a desktop (which im ordering tomorrow :) lol )

.. wrote a huge post and lost it to browser crash :/

Long story short the 555 GT will allow you to play BF3 in medium presets at 30+ fps.

I would recommend a similar spec to Madmans above with a Vortex II chassis and 560M GTX GPU for a 50% performance increase in shogun / BF3 (considerably less in WoW) for under £1k.

My highest recommendation would be a Vortex III with 7970M GPU at the end of may when they arrive for well over double the performance of the 560M GTX. This setup would set you back under £1200, which is quite honestly disgusting considering the performance you will enjoy (approximately equal to a desktop 480?). This setup would allow you to play BF3 in ultra presets 1080p at 40+ fps constantly.

To give you an idea, the vortex II 17" in my sig set me back over £2000. The Vortex III w/ 2670QM (or ivy bridge equivalent) and 7970M will give you up to a 35% performance increase. almost makes me want to cry.

Browser crashes are the worst and its worse still when you actually contemplated copying all the text just as you click submit but you decide against it... lol

I feel your pain bro..

Hmm.. starting to think I should of waited a month to get the 7970m instead.. But on the other hand, I can use the GTX 675m now and possibly upgrade to the GTX 680m later this year.. a sound plan me thinks.

By opting to upgrade the GPU at a later date you would quite literally be throwing several hundred pounds away. If the 680M resembles the release price of the 580M we're talking up to or over £600.

If you are happy to utilise D3DOverrider to make up for the ATI driver shortcomings I would recommend sticking it out and purchasing a laptop with a 7970M. The 680M has not veen been officially announced and may turn out to be on par with or even slower than the 7970M (which is CHEAPER than while considerably outperforming the 675M).

... just please don't pick up a laptop with a 675M with upgrading to a 680M in a few months down the line in mind unless you quite literally have money to burn or are desperate for a gaming laptop now.

I can back dangro up on avoiding the 675m for a quick buy.

Get a 7970m as it's an absolute powerhouse and is likely to be on par with 680m anyway.

Nvidia have a habit of making very expensive and very hot running mobile graphics cards whereas the 7970m runs cooler than the 6990m did.

Money isn't a problem, i've had much better experiences with nvidia cards, in terms of reliability and performance over the years. so upgrading to a gtx 680m will be no problem for me.

In that case you have your answer.

I would still recommend waiting for the 7970M anyhow, as you will end up with a cheaper, more powerful GPU that you may eventually decide does not need replacing with a 680M.
