What Is The PC Specialist Refund Policy?

Hi guys, let me put this question into context, as i've had my PC of 4 months, its on its 3rd RMA and I've called the support team so many times I'm starting to recognise some of them by name :)

I ordered my PC on the 18th March 2010, and it came two weeks later. I powered it up for the fist time, and it didnt get as far as a POST - no beep with or without RAM, no matter which combination of slots were used. After spending an hour on the phone to the support team, it went for RMA number 1, which turned out indeed to be faulty RAM.

Recieved it the second time, and it failed to boot again. after another long session on the phone to the support team, the new RAM sticks had been put in the wrong slots, which prevented the POST checks. Which makes little sense when it was supposed to have been rigourously tested after the RAM was replaced. After getting it into the correct slot, it booted up, but the whole system would freeze without exception between 5 - 30 minutes of being switched on. after updating chipset drivers, flashing the bios and another monster session with the support team, RMA number 2 was born. Again it turned out to be corrupt RAM.

I recieved it for the 3rd time 4 days ago, and to my delight, it booted up and ran crash free with all drivers and updates installed... Until i tried playing games. It now appears that any 3D graphical processing on the ATI HD 5770 (x2) causes it to crash within 45 minutes (which is the record so far). This can be recreated with benmark software (i use Mark3D Vantage) or any other game. Thus RMA number 3 was created today and will be on its way to you shortly.

So to conclude, with the plethora of technical problems i've had with my PC (order No. 333544), and a fair chunk of the limited time off I have (Due to being in the Royal Navy) being consumed packing and unpacking my PC, my patience is now wearing thin and i would like to know - what is the policy on refunds?

regards,
JR

We're very sorry that you've had problems with your order, which according to the fault reports on your RMA's shows the RAM as causing the problem. If the PC is crashing when playing games, it could be related the the memory on one of the graphics cards.

If you would like a refund we are more than happy to issue you one. However, we always prefer to repair the computer where possible, even though it would be easier to issue a refund, because we would like you to be a satisfied customer.

When we get the computer back we will change the RAM and the graphics cards for you as a precautionary measure, providing you're happy for us to do this.

I'm more than happy for you to change anything you feel is required. Another reason that I asked about the refund policy is that due to 4.5 months of depreciation on my PC, I can actually build a better PC for the same money on your site. Just for the record, the support team has been very helpful throughout this and I appreciate that, its just getting getting to a point of frustration now for having been so long. Its also a 100 mile round trip to pick up the PC and take it back to base everytime its delivered or needs an RMA, as I cant get it directly delivered to the naval base (no packages of any kind, unfortunately).

Hopefully you can understand my frustrations,

JR

edit: - RMA 10156 was supposed to be collected on friday, but DHL never showed up.

I hope you get it sorted Jr1986, i had a few problems with my pc at first (although not as bad as yours) living nearly 200 miles away from pcspecialist means nearly 400 miles per trip to return and receive it. Pcs are so tempermental at times.

Indeed they are, I think I must be in the running for the unluckiest customer they have had to date :)

The odds of getting 2 sets of faulty RAM and a faulty graphics card must be astronomical! I realise that this isn't entirely PCS's fault and I've had no problems RMAing it where nessessary, but with 4.5months of not being able to use it, its now depreciated by £44 from the time of purchase. Not to mention the valuable gaming hours I've lost :p

P.S 400 miles? yikes!
