What happened to the 256Gb Samsung M.2 option

Hi,

When configuring the 17.3" Octane 111 there's now only the 128GB M.2 option vailable. What happened to the 256GB option, is it just out of stock?

Looking at this thread talking about the Samsung M.2 drives: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?50770-M-2-drive&highlight=m.2+samsung, there is the comment:

Spoke to a guy on webchat and he said that they are currently not supplying m.2 NVMe drives over 128gb just now as they can't get a reliable supplier for them.

And it looks like they couldn't give an ETA which is why the options have been removed from the configurator

Also I believe a new line is coming out: http://www.kitguru.net/components/s...ung-debuts-new-960-pro-and-960-evo-nvme-ssds/ In addition to the 961s mentioned in that thread I guess. So perhaps PCS may stock something from one of these Samsung lines.

Great answers guys, thanks for the info. Will put off my order until the 960's are released and go for the 512GB that I would prefer. Shouldn't be too long to wait.

From my chats with PCS, it seems the new SM961 M2s are imminent within a month, which should give 256GB and 512GB options, with R/W >2000 ... after all what's the point of R/W at HS-SSD speeds?

So now the 1TB SAMSUNG PM961 M.2 is available in the configuration, does anyone know the comparative specs on this one and the 1TB SAMSUNG SM961 M.2?

PM961

Max. Read: 3000 MB/s
Max. Write: 1100 MB/s

SM961 1TB

Max. Read: 3200 MB/s
Max. Write: 1800 MB/s

...not a lot in it spec wise, but about £100 price difference.

Looks like I'll be ordering an Octane III end of next week unless anyone knows of something else new on the horizon (1 monh or so away) that will be worth waiting for. Already waited most of this year for the new video cards and now the M.2 SSDs
