What Does This Message Mean?

Ever since I reinstalled Windows 10, I've had this message appear when starting my laptop:

Also, how do I get the PCSpecialist logo to appear during start-up instead of this American Megacorp (I have no idea how it got there)?

When you boot a modern PC the BIOS contains a list of the potential bootable devices and the order in which the BIOS should attempt to boot them. If the first device in the list has no bootable media present then the BIOS moves on to the next device. Typically in most computers the very last device in this list is to boot from a network attached device. If that fails, usually because there is no Ethernet cable plugged in to the LAN port, you see the Media Test Failure message above complaining that the last bootable device had no LAN cable and thus failed. Basically what's happened is that your BIOS could not find any bootable devices.

There are several possible reason for this:

1. The HDD/SSD containing Windows does not appear in your BIOS boot list (unlikely)

2. There is a problem with the boot sector on your HDD/SSD (quite likely)

3. There is a hardware problem with your HDD/SSD (possible)

I would suggest that you first check the boot order in your BIOS. Generally you want the CD/DVD first, then an external USB device, then the HDD or SSD on which Windows is installed. Ensure that the network boot is the very last (or is disabled).

Then I'd recommend you boot the Windows install DVD and select the Repair option, then chose Startup Repair to see whether that fixes it. I'd also open the command prompt in the Repair options and run "chkdsk /r" against your system drive.

Are you using legacy boot or UEFI?
