Need a comp that can fraps the newest games at least 30fps at 720p/1080p and is good for video editing. Would this spec be able to achieve this? also is sandy bridge any good?

That would do pretty much anything you tell it to, be firm with it! Serious note though, whats the budget for the new beast? :)

Is it worth keeping the 1600 RAM though? If it's not being overclocked? and the 1333 is perfectly fine and more stable (I have the 1333 and it's the fastest part of my pc!)

Any plans to overclock? Also, the 2500 may be enough if you are only gaming.

not really. am i right in assuming that an over clocked system uses a lot of electricity? Cos at this point im kind of a lodger and i don't want to blow the electricity bill up the roof for the people who've let me live with them. i will also use this rig for video editing.

I wouldn't imagine the OC'd version would be a giant leap in terms of electricity usage to be honest. Don't get me wrong, it'll rise obviously, but not enough to break the bank. The i7 2600 I'd recommend for anything more than gaming, just due to the fact that those extra few MHz would come in handy when it comes to vid editing while running other applications. There isn't much to play with really when it comes to changes as you're already at your budget, the only changes if you could afford it, would be to change the primary HDD to a SSD and to counter the price increase lower the GPU to the 580? It's just ideas though, at the end of the day, you know what you want, we're just here to help guide you as best we can :). Any questions just ask away!

1600 really is wasted unless you OC, and I have seen nothing but good words about the Samsung 1333 PCS use, so dont discount that because of a dislike of Samsung in general.

Would echo the others in that a 2k PCwill rip apart anything now, and for the near future, but nothing is guaranteed past tomorrow, let alone next year :D

I take it you're going for gaming.

Can you SLI two of the big 2-processor Nvidias?

Missed a trick there, if you can :D lol

And if this is a "money no problem" kinda deal... get it watercooled, overclock the i7, etc.

I ROFL'd at the mouse and keyboard too...

Highly underrapreciated comonents. I've used a Z-Merc gaming keyboard for years and the nearly £30 I spent on my logitech gaming mouse in Argos well worth it. Always stay wired too - nothing worse than dying batteries in wireless keyboard/mouse kits.

Think about it. The 3 things you'll do most on your PC: Stare at the screen, hold the mouse in one hand, keyboard in the other.

Oh and scream "frak you!" down your headset ;-)

ah right, i've already decided to get a razer artcosa keyboard and a razer naga gaming mouse, forgot to take the mouse and keyboard off of the thignymabob. And i'll have you know that i say "**** you" like a gentleman would =) considering overclocking..... however i've never done that before...
