Alright folks,

Hope you are all keeping safe during this lockdown.

I was recommended by a friend from work to come on here for advice, so here I am.

So maybe lockdown has made me see the light and look to move on to PC gaming, and seeing as I have zero clue I am going to look for advice from the experts.

Budget is circa £2000

Require recommendations for a system that is going to be mainly used for FPS games like Call of duty ( don't chastise me lol ) and Destiny, though I do from time to time venture into other games, but will be mainly those two.

I would also need a monitor, I do have a benq 2455 at the moment, but again the friend from work said I'd probably be advised to get a new one, so any recommendations gratefully received.

Don't know if this makes any difference, but it will only be used for gaming, I have a Mac and MacBook that I use for everything else.

Look forward to your wisdom and guidance.

James

Sorry! Got sidetracked.....

For monitor, this would be a good addition to the system, 1440p 165Hz Freesync and curved, excellent value:

For the system, it's on special offer atm, it's £1800 worth of kit for £1500 and incredibly good value, go to review pc's in link below and it's the Inferno L2:

What a beauty of a monitor...

So this may sound like a stupid question, and it probs is lol, when I click on the Inferno L2 the equipment that is all highlighted in the components sections etc is what it comes as is?

And I guess it doesn't matter what keyboard and mouse I purchase?

The newbie is showing through eh lol

Yeah, that's right, if you change any of the applied components you'll lose the discount.

You can add any additional peripherals without affecting price.

I have a feeling the 650W PSU may be out of stock which would prevent you purchasing at the discounted rate. If this is the case, just give PCS a call and explain and see if they can swap it with something else and keep the discounted rate.

Hey Guys,

Hows form? hope your all keeping safe and well during this chaotic time.

Anyways long post short....Spydertracks came up with the goods for a gaming pc and monitor for me, but me being me let it lie, due to working away, and by time I got around to looking to purchase it was no longer available.

So you all know what the next question is, looking for advice on a gaming PC as mentioned at the top of the thread. Also in relation to monitor would it be possible to get an idea for curved and normal, incase I don't like the curved.

I'm also due away for 3 weeks work on the 7th of this month, so how long do the PCs stay available for??

Hope this made sense.

Cheers

TBH, the fact you've held off will actually work greatly in your favour. NVidia have just announced the 3000 series cards and they are a MAJOR step up in performance for significantly less cash. So currently a 2080ti costs £1200, and now the 3080 is substantially more powerful costing £700.

Basically you'll get a lot more for your money since you waited, so the gods were looking out for you ;)

They aren't quite on pre order yet, but we'll put together a core build and you can add it when it's available.

For £2000 you should be able to factor in a 3080 which would be around 4k 144Hz performance or 1440 Superwide or Ultrawide (personally I think they're more immersive for gaming).

Cheers for a very quick response......again!

Your right it does sound like the PC Gods have been looking out for me, which I must admit never normally works that way for me lol

Anyway my mate, who originally put me onto the site, says your the man to listen to when it comes to builds so whatever you think is best bang for the buck I will get.

Do you think I'll be able to get it in obsidian black lol

I was just tapping out pretty much the same thing on my keyboard and yet again @SpyderTracks and his nimble typing skills beat me to it.

But I would definitely like to echo the statement about ultra/superwide monitors, having taken delivery on a 34 inch screen recommended by the aforementioned Spyder and @Nursemorph

I've played games at 4K before and yes, they're really great looking. Nobody will deny that. But 1440p on an ultrawide is... next level. When I stood on top of a cliff playing Red Dead Redemption 2 recently it was pretty breathtaking with all the extra the screen has to offer you. And your console playing mates will be well envious  (y)

EDIT - Just to clarify... I wasn't actually stood on the cliff personally, the protagonist of the game was.

I've been looking at a couple of monitors;

and;

And this will probably sound like a stupid question, are any of them compatible with the build? or is there another option which any one would recommend

Oh and am I right in thinking that this build of PC is able to be upgraded in the future?

Cheers in advance

Depends on what you mean by upgraded? Only thing it should need over time is maybe a GPU update in several years, depending on your uses.

As to the monitors, they are both decent 1440p monitors (assuming the Amazon link was supposed to link to the 1440p one rather than the 1080p one?). However, depending on your monitor budget, I'd really be looking at an Ultrawide to match the GPU as suggested by Spyder before
1440p is too little for the GPU, it's just wasting money. If you really want the 3080, it basically has to be a Superwide which is 5120 x 1440 or 4k 144hz, anything less than that you're just not using the GPU.

An Ultrawide (3440 x 1440) is even too little for it, it's a monster GPU, tbh, even on the 3070 an ultrawide would be too little, but I guess if you find a high refresh rate ultrawide it may be worth it.

Cheers for that guys, like I say I'm very much a noob at this, but I am finding it very interesting.

I've taken onboard what you are both saying, so will look out for a superwide monitor, I have a few days before I shoot off to work for a few weeks, so will no doubt post some on here for feedback.

Again your patience is appreciated

Wow!!

You don't realise how much is involved in just researching screens!!!

Starting to narrow down, but thought I'd make sure I'm on the right track lol

So what about this?

Showing the wet behind ears bit fully now eh lol
