Warranty Upgrade Question

Hi

Is it possible to upgrade the warranty after purchasing a laptop (say a couple of months) or must it be done at the time of purchase.

Thanks

I believe it can be upgraded after purchase, but it must be before your current warranty has run out (but I don't know how long before).

Your best bet is probably to give PCS a call because I could be wrong

Apologies to bring up an old thread however.

Whilst it is possible to upgrade the warranty after purchase, make sure you get PCS permission in writing first so that you have evidence for when the time comes.

I enquired last year and was told over the phone that I could upgrade at anytime in the first year, as long as it was before the warranty paid for expired. Turns out I was misled by PCS as I have just tried to upgrade with one month warranty left from the first year and got told there was no way would PCS upgrade my warranty as you have to have more than three months left.

The agent I spoke with seemed un-interested really that I had been lied to by PCS and was happy to turn away money and a potential customer in the future.

So I am now placed in a position by PCS that I cannot upgrade my warranty for a further year so if any faults develop then I will be liable for charges by PCS for parts. A cynical part of me wonders if that is the idea as no doubt the parts would be more than the warranty upgrade.

I was also told by PCS over the phone that you need to have 3 months left, I don't think you were misled but probably some misunderstanding took place. I'd suggest trying to contact them again and see what options you could have.

Apparently no options available.

I am not sure about confusion as I went over it twice and there was never any mention of "three months".

It's worth considering that some of the parts in your PC will be covered under their own warranties separate from PCS's. I'm not sure of the legal/logistical issues involved in this but I would suspect if a component became faulty outwith PCS's warranty period but still inclusive of the manufacturer's warranty then you would be able to raise a RMA with the manufacturer.

I am not sure of this at all, but it seems to make sense to me. As Keynes suggested give them another call to discuss your options, its the best way to move forward even if you cannot upgrade your warranty with PCS themselves.

Not sure, like you, I think that if the parts have been supplied as a build like this I think the warranty is transferred to PCS and therefore I cannot say send the processor back to Intel. I think it is just when you buy the parts yourself and fit yourself that you get the manufacturers warranty.

I wouldn't have thought that was the case (maybe I'm just being a bit optimistic?). But I'd certainly be getting that confirmed as being (or not being) the case from PCS. Gives you a piece of mind at least.

If the warranties are for the original purchaser (ie PCS) then they'd still retain the longer warranties (if there are any applicable ones).

My apologies that the incorrect information was given to you when you called last year and we are looking into why you were given the wrong information, it would not have been our intention to mislead you. I can assure you that the 'Agent' you spoke to was interested and concerned that you received the incorrect information from your previous call.
(This is my personal input on this matter not PCS)

As you have emailed in to PCS, please refer to the reply as the official response.

As for the manufacturers warranty, some hardware parts have warranty that exceed our standard 1 year parts. If they are faulty, we can check with the manufacturer and see if it as any warranty left on it. This mainly applies to different brands of HDDs and PSUs. If an item is in manufacturers warranty we will send it back to them on your behalf for repair/replacement.
For future clarification to any other customers.

Clarification on Warranty (Copied from another of my posts)
Standard - May not be upgraded after we dispatch the machine.
Silver + Gold - Can be upgraded from date of ordering and any time after that up UNTIL 3 months before one part of the warranty lapses. Once you are within that last 3 months.. Sorry missed your chance, its not personal.
Upgrading beyond gold warranty is unavailable for laptop customers
e.g. Your order arrives with you on January the 1st 2014, You can upgrade a Silver any time up UNTIL the 1st of October 2014. Gold is any time up until 1st of October 2015.

Thanks for the clarification. I have one more query, what if you buy a system with platinum warranty and within the warranty period you use the upgrade service (e.g. upgrade the GPU, CPU cooler....) Are the new parts going to be part of the initial warranty?

Good Afternoon

I want to make a final post regarding this issue as I believe that after my comments above against PCS it would be unfair on them to only mention the negatives on what is a public forum.

Therefore, I can say that following communications via email that an agreed resolution has been found.
