well ,i want a new monitor, currently i am using an lcd tv and it is connected via hdmi...i want to couple this with a proper monitor so i can have both running at the same time In the new monitor i want both dvi and or hdmi connections and for no bigger than 23 inches and no smaller than 19,also[and this is a must] i would like the monitor to have a very high refresh rate and also be capable of very high resolutions.I have seen a couple of monitors with a 120 hz refresh rate and this rate would be ideal......in regards to the refresh rate i want to not have limited frame rates because of a low refrsh rate, now i know people say that boyond 60 fps you don't notice it but this is not true for me
.....any ideas ,thiughts....basically i want a monitor with said refresh rate and which is capable of high resolutions while not affecting the refresh rate .....for example on my current display ,if you choose ahigh resolution it lowers the refresh rate/i wqant a high refresh rate and high resolutions.

It is true for everyone. Beyond 70Hz ish, you do NOT notice the difference as the naked eye cannot detect anything better. There is currently no 'addon' that you can buy from somewhere that upgrades your eye or anything i'm afraid :p This is for everyones eyes, noone is different.

HOWEVER, big however, 120Hz TVs have ONE significant use which is why TV manufacturers still bother to manufacture them.

The reason is: 3D, such as that provided by that Nvidia 3D thing and other such gadgets. :)

LG, Samsung etc do quite a few nice 120Hz TVs, worth a looksie on their websites if you're interested.

no man ,with respect you may be wrong, there has apparently been research don and some people can notice higher frame rates than 70hz, yeah i'm aware of the 3d capabilities this was also a consideration,...

70 was an approximation ;p what i mean is you cant detect the full 120hz for suremeaning that the sole use of a 120hz monitor is for 3d

Maybe he has super eyes that can detect 120hz!
I haven't seen many before though so I'm not sure which ones would be the best to go for but you could try looking on amazon or something and read the comments left by other people that have bought them.

The amount of fps or what refresh rate the human eye can detect is a very complicated question with an even more complicated answer. Fact of the matter is we dont see in fps and have no refresh time, we see a fluid stream of visual information that is far, far apart from the way screens display images or fps / refresh times etc.

So what is "Enough fps"? I don't know, because nobody went there so far. Maybe 120fps is enough, maybe you will get headaches after 3 hours. Seeing framewise is simply not the way how the eye\brain system works. It works with a continuous flow of light\information. (Similar to the effects of cameras' flashlights ("red eyes"): flashing is simply not the way how we see). So there are still questions. Maybe you need as much as 4000fps, maybe less, maybe more.

The same question as for fps will arise for resolution. How many pixels can the human eye see? Does 2000x1000 (=Star Wars Episode II resolution) look like reality? Or is it just enough to make a film "cinemable"?

The only conceivable justification for the extra expense of a 120mhz monitor is exactly what they are marketed as, 3D Vision monitors.

3d is part of my reason for wanting a 120hz monitor but, yes ,gormon, i would second what you say in regards to fps.....you.....frightfully- personable- soul.....do you see what i did there, god i'm witty and pointless

I don't know, higher FPS is better(which is true) but once you've hit the 60fps mark, nothing much is different. Playing a game at 60fps and 100fps doesn't make a bloody difference in my opinion. Though fps does matter more for FPS(pun not intended) games.

After 60fps, everything that comes after it is for bragging rights. An extra 60fps isn't going to help your K/D ratio by much. And just buying the PC specifications to get there would sooner break your wallet.

Refresh rates used to mean a lot more in the CRT era. Not so for LED/LCDs. I'd be more concerned with the response time of the monitor to be honest.

thanks for your comments.......k/d ratio, what is this....................as for noticing a frame rate higher than sixty ,apparently this is true for you,but as for a universal rule i think the jury is out......but general consensus is 60,70.....but some think otherwise,we can only assume that ,yes some people can notice framerates higher than this or they think they can
