It's sat in pre production at the minute, hopefully soon to be in building assuming the backlog has nearly been cleared. I'm thinking about requesting for a partition on the HDD which will be intended for recovery. I think I saw somewhere that PCS would create the partition but would not add the recovery to it. how difficult would I find it to create the recovery image once I have received my order? is it something that windows will handle with limited oversight or a more advanced task?

Does anyone know how where in the queue my build is and so have a rough idea of when it may be built? I understand its well within the timeframe set out by PCS upon ordering but having ordered I seem to developed the patience of a five year old on Christmas Eve.

I may be wrong but I don't think you'll need to partition your hdd. You get a windows DVD with your build so as long as you periodically use the Backup feature in windows you can use the DVD to recover your OS if a problem arises.

Here's a how to http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7702/restoring-windows-7-from-an-image-backup/

With regards to your build time, you're in PCS's hands there, build times vary so its impossible to say. They'll keep you informed by email as it passes through the various stages. I know how you feel, I had to wait ages for my GPU to come back into stock, it killed me!

That is more or less identical to my build I am waiting for. Don't bother with partitioning - I'm not anyway - if you want recovery go for the free version of Macrium Reflect Disk Imaging and Backup...free, easy to use. Just back up onto an external drive occasionally. I've used it a few times on 4 blown SSDs on the desktop.

Any reccomendations for AV? I have Mcafee on my current laptop but I'm refusing to put it on the new one. Considering AVG, Avast, Comodo or possibly the new ZoneAlarm AV + Firewall combo. I use MSE, Spybot and Ad-Aware in unison with mcafee currently but wouldn't mind trimming that list down. I don't click on any of the stupid pop-ups, my main worry is suspiscious emails and security holes. Ideally I want something that isn't a resource hog but ultimately I the one that provides the best level of protection, which of the four would I be best with? or is there a better alternative?

Put it this way I have 2 PCs and 2 laptops with MSE and Malwarebytes and have never had an issue. It is easy to get paranoid - I have tried every one of the ones on your list. My new one will have MSE and Malwarebytes on it and I am 99.9% confident I will have no issues - depends what you do and if you are careful clearly.

It was finally dispatched yesterday and the DPD ruin my day by texting me a 07:20 this morning saying my delivery window is between 18:14 and 19:14, those B***ards!

obviously I will be spending the whole day peering from my window looking for DPD vans even though I know it won't be coming until the allocated time.

guess it gives me time to get my steam library backed up for transfer and get the MSE and MalwareBytes installations ready.

Guess what I'm posting this message from...Yes, my new Optimus. DPD arrived in the middle of the delivery window, the packaging showed no damage and didn't rattle when I moved it, so far so good. My excitement was rose when I opened the box and saw it was packed very well, I took out the power brick first, and well, it was a brick. The laptop itself seems very sturdy and it looks great, I like the gap between the keys, once I get used to the keyboard it should reduce the occurence of typo's and errors (not used to having a numberpad, I keep hitting num lock instead of delete). The screen is fantastic and so far everyting has worked perfectly. I'm looking forward to seeing what it does to Football Manager a little later.

one thing has completely confused though, in addition to the laptop and charger I received a windows disc, driver disc, nero disc, welcome pack and a small rectangular piece of clear plastic with 2 black strips on it, which I have no idea what it's for.
