Hey guys! I've got a Vortex III, I use the machine for video editing and would like to run it dual or triple screen, preferably two external monitors and still have the laptop screen working. Is this possible?
I have recently received a Vortex III with HD7970M and am having trouble using 3 monitors (2 external + 1 laptop LCD). I can connect the two external monitors but Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit / the drivers only seem to allow me to run either the 2 external or 1external+1laptopLCD. All 3 monitors are detected and shown in Windows control panel but it will only allow me to enable any 2 of the 3 displays at any one time. Is this a driver or hardware issue?
I'm just trying to run all 3 displays for general desktop & productivity tools at the moment, but everything I've read suggests this is possible but I just can't see how?
Could it be because Windows explorer itself is using the Intel 4000 card, not the HD 7970M? If so, how do I change that?
THANKS!
Hi there,
I have just put in my order for a Vortex III with 7970m with the initial intention of using 3 external Monitors. This, I was told, is not possible because the HDMI and DVI ports on the Graphics card are joined on the board. What connections are you using to connect your 2 external monitors? I would assume Display Port + DVI/HDMI. Is this correct? I am not aware of being able to run 3 screens at once with this hardware even if the Laptop screen is one of them.
I would be very interested if someone figures it out though...
Thanks,
Josh
Hello All,
I am running my Vortex III (Clevo P170EM 7970M) with two external monitors - 1xHDMI & 1xDisplayPort->Passive Adapter->HDMI. In this configuration, it doesn't let you use the laptop screen (for 3 total). My understanding from the manufacturer documentation was that this is due to the card containing two clocks. Thus, you can only use two out of this list at any one time - "laptop LCD/HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort->PassiveAdapter->HDMI". However, the manufacturer documentation does say that you can use an "Active DisplayPort Adapter" (because it basically gives you an additional clock) to run "DisplayPort->ActiveAdapter->HDMI" AND two from this list - "laptop LCD/HDMI/DVI" (i.e. get the total of 3 screens, either 3 external or Laptop + 2external. HOWEVER, despite this, the PC specialist support team ran a test in this setup and couldn't get the Windows desktop to extend over the 3 monitors. They see the same situation I mentioned above with Windows refusing to enable the third monitor. Whether this is a driver (likely) issue or something else it's not clear. I still don't understand it because from a hardware perspective there shouldn't be any reason why it can't do this. However, as a warning I will re-iterate that the PCspecialist team tried this and couldn't get it working.
If anyone has a different experience, then please reply!!
Thanks,
David
