Vortex III - Pre Sales

Hi

New to the forum, registered as I do not seem to be able to get any response from PCS on Live Chat.

Am looking at a Vortex III with the following alterations to base spec:

Intel i7-3610 (not sure the 3720 is worth the extra)
Glossy Screen (what is the benefit of the Matte Screen for normal use)
16gb Samsung 1600Mhz ram
Upgraded Thermal Paste
Ultimate-N 6300 Wireless
No Operating System

The questions I have are:

1. Can the harddrive be a model not on the list (looking at the Samsung 830 256Gb)? If not, can the laptop be supplied without harddrives, I have a home server so am happy to only have the above SSD as I will not fill it even with all my apps and games installed.
2. The warranty does not give the Platinum option of the full three years for everything, can this be applied and at what cost?

The other major question I have is 'how good are PCS'. Have never purchased from them before, having always used Novatech in the past and whilst Novatech stock the same Clevo base they do not have the same level of customisation options.

Welcome to our forums

1. If you send the HDD to us we can install it into the laptop for you - you just need to call us after having saved a quote and we will edit it for you. However, I would recommend you re-consider the Intel and Kingston SSD series. They are by far the most reliable available on the market.

2. At present we do not offer Platinum warranties - Gold is the highest we offer.

Thanks for the links PCS, have had a read and feel more comfortable as I have also found some other reviews. Thanks for the thoughts on the SSD, however I think I will stick to the Samsung and add that as my boot drive. I have one in my desktop and it is excellent even on SATA3.

So, them spec that I am currently looking at now for a build is:

VortexIII

17.3 Glossy
i7-3610QM
16Gb 1600Mhz Samsung Ram
NVidia 670GTX
750Gb WD Scorpio Black
Artic Thermal Paste upgrade
Ultimate N-6300 Wireless upgrade
No Installed Software - No Operating System
Gold Warrenty if the Platinum is not available
1 Yr Dead Pixel

Will add the Samsung SSD following delivery, am comfortable adding and removing components so this will not be a problem.

I am thinking the above will last me for several years, not a heavy gamer but play things like Rail and Ship simulators.
