I ordered the computer on Tuesday 24th July and received it on the 26th!!! I was amazed!! I opted for the 3 day build time and expected it on Saturday morning but I spoke to PC Specialist on the Wednesday and it was already built so I was able to receive it on the Thursday morning.
Before this machine I was using an Alienware M11x R1. To be fair I can't really say anything too bad about the Alienware as it was a fantastic machine, I only had a few little niggles with screen hinges but they were quickly fixed by Alienware. I got the point where the Alienware wasn't really keeping up with my workload, I'm an extreme sports film maker and use Premiere Pro CS6 & After Effects on a daily basis. The M11x was fine when I was using uncompressed footage from P2 format but the second I started throwing compressed DSLR footage at it she started to grind to a halt. As I was really happy with my M11x I started checking out the M14x as I needed something a bit quicker with a larger higher resolution screen, I configured a system and was shocked to see that it would be nearly £2500!! That's when I came across PC Specialist. I configured a system on their website and it was far more powerful than the M14x not only was it more powerful but it was also a lot cheaper.
When I received my laptop from PC Specialist I immediately installed Adobe Master Collection, I also applied the GPU hack so I could use my GTX680M to accelerate Premiere and After Effects. Right from the off I could see this machine was going to be a beast, Premiere loads up in seconds and I can scrub through DSLR footage with ease, no stuttering at all. It also handles effects with ease, changing colour and adding Magic Bullet Looks to footage causes it no bother at all, the Mercury playback engine works as it should. I would definitely recommend the GTX680m for use for Premiere, with over 1000 CUDA cores there isn't a graphics card that gets near it for the price!
The actual hardware is really well built too, the laptop is sturdy to hold, the keyboard works as it should, the screen is very clear and the colour representation is pretty accurate although I am going to reconfigure this myself when I have time.
I'm not really much of a gamer anymore but I couldn't resist buying BF3 and giving it a whirl online. I chucked the graphics settings straight to ultra and jumped into a server, it runs like a dream! I just wish BF3 had an ultra ultra setting so I could really push the card.
To wrap up I am very happy with my purchase, I found PC Specialist very easy to deal with and the delivery time was out of this world, two days for a fully customized laptop really is incredible! The machine itself far exceeds expectations!
Awesome job guys!
