Hi All

Am budding videographer looking for new video editing pc. Have done a bit of research and have looked at this spec for my desktop for round £650-£700 pounds.

Will need it to last a few years and be able to run 2 monitors.
Would much appreciate advise and guidance on this matter.

Thanks in Advanced

You connect the Monitors to the Graphics Card, not the motherboard.

The GT430 Graphics Card you have chosen will come with 1 x VGA, 1 x DVI & 1 x HMDI.

Hi,

When looking for a ‘video editing’ PC, it’s probably important to take into consideration the potential need for a powerful processor and enough RAM. Last year, I received an email from PCS, which included the following comments:

“The ranges of the systems vary for what you need them for really, a cheaper system with an i3, would be ideal for editing videos in standard definition, off a DV cam or something like that.

The medium range systems, i.e. about £600-900 would feature i5 processors, these are brilliant for standard definition, and decent enough to do a bit of HD editing, with the performance to do the advanced features on SD videos.

The high end systems e.g. £1000+ would be perfect for HD video editing, up to 1080P quality, these would feature an i7 processor, good amounts of RAM etc.

CUDA comes into play with high end apps like Adobe Premiere and the like, but not all software.
The GTS 250 features this, to go for a higher GPU would not really be necessary, as they are more designed for 3D graphics operation and would not help with the rendering speed of the videos as such.”

Of course, the GTS 250 has probably been replaced by the GTS 450 or GTX 460. I’m sure that the experts may also recommend a SSD but you may well be able to get away with a 500GB WD Caviar Black Hard Drive with 64MB Cache for the OS and programs.

This is a very specialist field and it would be really helpful if you could talk to a specialist video editing systems supplier (someone who deals with Avid, Matrox, Adobe Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas) or someone who edits a lot and who can appraise the type of work you intend to do. Some specialist video editing suppliers often tailor the system in line with the video editing software application you use or intend to use.

Also, I’ve noted that the specialists always recommend Windows 7 Pro and often configure systems with two screens.

I haven’t bought my replacement system yet but wish you well with your selection.

Thanks Guys

One Final Question

Could the Graphics Card Support 2 Monitors showing different things?

It sure can! When you get the PC with Windows 7, just hold down the Windows Key and tap "p". This will give you a number of different options including Single Screen, Duplicate Screens, Extrend Desktop (this is the one you want) and Projector.
