Upgrading Laptop Parts - what's possible?

Apologies if this has been done before but my powers of search are not strong.

I read in another post that the MQ at the end of the processor name referenced it as replaceable in the same way a tower CPU would be, and HQ meant it was soldered.

Previously I had never really considered upgrading laptop parts outside of the obvious RAM and HDD, and so my approach has been to get the best parts in the cheapest config as I naively it seemed assumed once the spec became old hat it was time to re-buy.

What components in a laptop are easily-ish replaceable? Processor, GPU, SLI GPU (Seen this in a Lenovo Y510q, is that even possible on PCS machines?), wireless card etc (seen some issues written about Intel ones which seem to be in everything!).

Of course some on here would be able to strip and reassemble a config blind folded against the clock, but as an 'off the street enthusiast' what would I realistically expect to work on without bricking my machine? If the bulk of things are upgradable then I might be tempted to spend a bit extra and buy better chassis.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The gpu depends on whether the chassis supports it and the availability of a BIOS upgrade. It should be fine to upgrade the CPU, RAM, wireless card. It also depends on availability of parts once you decide to upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. It is good to know this is possible bit having read around it does seem very dependent on the chassis with only the higher end ones not having components soldered in. The general consensus seemed to be to buy a spec you want/can afford and do not plan to upgrade later, I guess as comparability, availability and cost of parts might not make it practical, so I think I will stick with plan A of best parts on cheaper chassis.

Thanks.
