So I've been using my 2080 for quite a while now, 5 years. She's been doing good. But I think it's time for an upgrade.

Could I get some thoughts on this spec?

So you can either look at upgrading your GPU and PSU in your current system, or you can look at a new build. It looks like your current build is not a PCSpecialist system, so if you would like advice on upgrades there you would need to use an open forum such as Toms Hardware.

To help us advise you on a new build, please could you advise your max budget, any uses besides gaming, and your current monitor.
We would not advise buying a new Intel system at the moment outside of very special use cases.

Hi MrWilson, thanks for the reply!
So, I actually will be selling my current system to a friend, so I guess that's handy. Gives me a little extra bump in the budget.
The budget I'd like to stick to is around £3000-£3500

It's mainly going to be used for gaming, maybe livestreaming at some point, but not 100% sure on that.
While awaiting a reply on my post, I was also doing some reading through the forums and saw people mention that the SAMSUNG 990 PRO M.2 SSD is quite prone to failures, so I might have to swap that one for a different drive.

So, you are saying that I should probably go for a different CPU as well?

I currently use two Asus 1080p 144hz monitors, they are in great need of an upgrade if I will be getting a new system.
I am looking at the Samsung Odyssey OLED G91SD DQHD 144Hz Gaming Monitor, the ultrawide one.

Thanks in advance!
David

Nice big budget so we can have some fun here. There are a lot of enjoyers of different variants of the G9 on the forum, that model is available for a nice price at the moment, and can't fault stepping into the OLED world. If £3.5k includes the monitor we might need to a bit of trimming.

Case
CORSAIR iCUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER GAMING CASE Be Quiet Case will be fine, this has the benefit of being easier to sync RGB with icue and other components
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core CPU (Up to 5.2GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) Best gaming CPU out at the moment, will be able to handle streaming with the GPU doing a lot of the work for you.
Motherboard
GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL36 (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
16GB ZOTAC GEFORCE RTX 5080 SOLID OC - HDMI, 3 x DP Potential to drop this to the 5070ti when it comes out next week
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) Super fast primary drive, as you mentioned we tend to avoid the Samsung drives at the moment
1st M.2 SSD Drive
4TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) Games and docs drive, nice and large as games are bigger than they used to be, option to trim this back to 2TB if we need to bring the budget back down.
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)

Amazing! Thank you!
Also, to specify the budget I mentioned was strictly for the PC, not including the monitor.
With that in mind, I believe the spec you posted is ideal!
Would you change anything else now knowing that the budget does not cover the monitor?

Only change I would potentially look at would be upping the PSU to 1200W to be able to take a GPU upgrade down the line, you'll be all set to slap in a 7080/90 in 4-5 years time.

Otherwise this is a powerhouse build, and if you go ahead and order we would love to see some pics when it arrives!

That’s a lovely build!

Im the proud owner of the original G9, so not the OLED one, but they are remarkable screens, will change you’re whole experience with the aspect ratio

I would definitely stick with the 5080 if you’re upgrading to a G9

Awesome! Thanks so much, will definitely post some pics when I get it.
Final question, as you mentioned before that you know of many enjoyers of different variants of the G9 on the forum. The one I am looking to purchase is the 49" one (5120x1440).
Do you guys think the 5080 would comfortably run games on that panel? Or would a 2560 x 1440 monitor be a better choice for consistent performance?

G9 is just under 4k resolution and the 5080 is a 4k GPU, so it's well paired with the G9 resolution

I would say the 5090 is worth it, but from what we're seeing, it's quite possible they may be recalled due to substandard power connectors

5090 would be the dream! That would push the budget up quite a bit though hahah.
My main thing is that I'm quite particular about hitting that 144fps and I can imagine myself reducing the resolution on the monitor just to reach that.
From what I can see on benchmarks, the 5080 thrives at 1440p to hit the 144fps in modern games.

That’s benchmarks at max graphics. You’d never play a game at max graphics, you always optimise them as many settings can be reduced without affecting visual fidelity at all

Also be aware that OLED refresh rate is very different to LCD. A 144Hz OLED is more like a 240Hz LCD

Hey guys,

So was just about to submit the order for the build. Then I noticed that there is an option for a different graphics card. The 16GB ASUS TUF RTX 5080 OC.

The previous option was the ZOTAC RTX 5080 SOLID OC.
The Asus one is a bit more expensive, but looks like it has a bit higher boost clock.
Any thoughts on that?

The slightly higher boost clock is probably not going to justify the £154 price difference. In the previous gen 4080s, the difference was 2% at most...not sure what it will be like with the 5080s but I'd probably expect around the same which is not worth £154 in my opinion. Someone else with more knowledge of the 5080s may be able to give you a better opinion though

Thank you, that is a good point when you put the price like that in perspective.
