Hi all!!

I have a pc on the way, just in qc as we speak.. I have two questions.. when I say questions its more just advice I need really! Its like a would you bother to... so here goes!

Would you bother taking my old wifi card out of my old pc, a Ralink Turbo wireless lan card, its the one where the ariel comes with a wire and screws onto the card on the other end, with a little ariel and a stand.. worth putting it in??! or is it really old n poo?! lol!

Would you bother putting my old sound card from my old pc into my new one? my new pc has the z87-a mobo with what I think I can remember, a decent audio... Realtek® ALC892 8-channel high definition audio CODEC... my old sound card is a sound blaster audigy 24-bit advanced hd.. is this sound card better than the new mobo sound?? It only cost me around £40 quid about 10 year ago but I assume a stand alone sound blaster would be better than mobo audio? I will be using turtle beach x11 that I have for my xbox if that makes any diff?...

Cheers for your help all! I remember a time when I knew what I was doing with a pc! bout 12 years ago tho! :s

Depending on how old the LAN card is, I'd not bother putting it in a new PC. Chances are that if it is old then it doesn't support 802.11 n and so will be a bit slow and weak compared to newer stuff. But if it's not too old it should be fine.

I definitely wouldn't bother with the soundcard. A new discrete audio card would have a leg up on current motherboard-integrated sound cards, but one that's ten years old is going to be, well... a bit crap. There's been pretty big advancements in sound processing, particularly the quality of DACs (i.e. they're near-perfect now).

You need to check if the CPU cooler supports the socket of your CPU, if it is an old cpu cooler then probably not. Regarding the wireless card just fitting it in and see how it works.

That'll be functional, provided the new PC's motherboard has the right slot for it. I'd recommend getting a new one for the new computer, though.
For future reference, 802.11 is the standard for WiFi versions. So you've got 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac (in order of old to new).
