Turbo boost locked on ivy bridge cpu's?

I read that some clevo BIOS, inclusive of the optimus 4 disables the CPU boost on the CPU whilst the GPU is active, firstly can anyone confirm this and is there a workaround if so?

Do all laptop manufactures gimp the CPU then or just clevo?

Fair play about the warranty then if so, but are we not only buying 75% of the processor?

Would explain why Alienwares Warranty is so damn expensive as they allow turbo boost. £200 a year though.

ok so I noticed I am not using Turbo boost on 3610qm. Wtf? How can such restrictions apply? is there a workaround without voiding warranty

Probably not Cukrus. It's your call. If it isnt Clevo approved then its on your back. Sucks I know. Its a clever way to make you spend money on a faster CPU though eh :p I doubt this is PCS's fault however what do I know.

With the Optimus IV, the GPU runs so cool that I would have no hesitation about using throttlestop to enable turboboost if it wasn't for the fact that doing so voids your warranty.

Clevo did it to avoid heat issues on single fan models but for that model it really isn't necessary. I can understand doing it for the W150ER (Optimus III 15.6") and W110ER (Inferno II) models but not for this one.

So this even includes Vortex models where Turbo boost you'd of thought would be extremely important.

When logging my system while Gaming, my CPU cores on 3610QM go to 3100GHz, not the expected 3300GHz. Temp is around 60C. Would be nice if there was a way to make it reach %100 of what I payed for without avoiding warranty.

Worked this out.

Nvidia GPU On- Turbo off
Intel HD on- Turbo ON

Makes sense now. No need to get more cpu power when gaming...for now :)
