Please check specs below. I use to watch a lot of movies through my TV so want to be fairly quiet. Also do a lot of video editing and some gaming. I think I've gone a bit overboard and would like to get it down to £1500 but maintaining longevity of the system. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would downgrade the motherboard. The one you chosen won't add any benefits for your intended use. You could also get a bigger ssd and a caviar black as a secondary drive. If your OS is on the ssd you wouldn't get many benefits from a hybrid drive. Considering how much you are spending I would also go with gold warranty, it covers parts for 2 years.

If you're sure you will use all the additional power the overclock will bring then go for it, however do bear in mind it will mean the machine is more power hungry and noisy overall.

Generally for gaming you don't need an overclock, but if you do a fair bit of video work then it could potentially help with that a lot more.

Generally it looks fairly well balanced so if you're not looking to save cash then I don't have much more to add.

I have also merged the threads together, as Keynes already said its best to stick to one thread.

Ty, Bizarrely I have just tried the spec without the overclock and it came in more expensive.

Sometimes the case, just one of those things where all the configurators have yet to be updated with the latest prices.

I'd get a standard samsung SSD instead of the 951. Also, you don't need the fan controller and the onboard sound should be fine so no need for the sound card

Thank you for your response. I was going for a M.2 drive as I've heard great things about the speed they offer. I wanted the fan controller so I can easily turn everything down for movies and up again for gaming. Again the sound card for watching blurays, my experience from onboard sound has never been that good.

The sound from my Maximus VI is very good. It's not the pinnacle of audio, but the difference is nothing to worry about. It really comes down to the connections you need, it would be a waste for me to get a sound card if the connections are adequate. I would say at least try the on-board sound. What will you think if you compare the soundcard to the onboard and find you could have saved £95?
(I do actually have an external interface)

Ok thanks, that will save me £100. I run standard 3.5mm jacks for front, centre and sub to a control box so the mb should be fine then.

The standard sata SSD drives are fine for consumer use, the extra speed would be wasted on a desktop pc as they're more suited for business/server use. With the money you could probably get a larger sata ssd.

The fans should automatically adjust depending on the heat being created, so if only watching a movie the fans should be quiet anyway as it's not a very demanding task :)

And I agree with spuff on the sound card bit
