I've been trying to decide if it was time for a totally new setup again but due to budget restrictions for a couple of months I thought I'd just go for a new GPU and then transplant it to the new machine before Christmas. Ordered my GTX1060 from PCS which arrived yesterday and I installed it without any trouble or so I thought. Having 2 issues now:
1) This one is my own fault really. I have a 2G Radeon R270X which has a slightly unconventional connector arrangement since my monitors are a little on the older side. I have a VGA monitor using a VGA to VGA cable but adapted at the card end to a DVI-I which plugs into the card. My other monitor is connected with a DVI-D (monitor end) to HDMI cable (card end). This has worked fine for the past couple of years but when I installed the 1060 and plugged in the cables, I realized since the adapter is DVI-I rather than the DVI-D on the card the extra pins mean I can't hook up the VGA screen. Not the end of the world and I should probably get a new primary monitor anyway (any suggests around the £100 mark?).
2) This is the more serious one. Since I can't use my VGA screen I resigned myself to temporarily using just the DVI-D one with the converter cable plugged into the HDMI on the new 1060 until I could get a new screen. The card is securely clamped and screwed in it's slot and the 6 pin connector has been attached but it won't produce any output at all to the monitor. The fans on the card spin up when the machine starts so there's clearly at least some power going there but then they stop again after it starts and don't seem to do much else.
I've swapped the cards back for now and it's all working as it was before the "upgrade" but I'm curious if I'm missing something or if the card is defective? I've ordered some gold HDMI-HDMI and DVI-D to DVI-D cables to test on my DVI-D monitor and the HDMI on my TV but I'm mindful of PCS return policy. I can live with getting new connectors and a new monitor but if it's possibly the card that is the issue it feels a bit like a waste of money.
