Transfer disc to SSD

Hi, bought a laptop from PCS a few weeks ago and it is running awesome. Thank You PCS :)

I just bought Dark souls: Prepare to Die Edition and Skyrim a few days ago, both are running awesome with no lag whatsoever

My question was if I copy all the contents from the disc to the SSD would that mean I dont have to keep inserting the disc to play the game and would this improve the speed of games in general or is it the same?
Would transfer from disc to SSD improve the framerate or only the load times?

Thanks

Harun

most PC games no longer require the CD to run, if it is automatically linked to steam then the whole game will be installed into your steamapps folder

no, this wasnt bought from steam and a steam account wasnt used to install it
I had prototype earlier (only real pc game I had before other than ff11) and that required the disc to be put in everytime you play it
I havnt tried this game without a disc yet (will do when I get home), only played it once so far last night.

Some games use the disc as verification that you bought the game and its not a fake copy

Skyrim definitely shouldnt require a disc as it should require steam even from the disc

As Wozza said, Skyrim should require a steam account to register the game on even if bought on disc but after that will not require a disc to run. Not so sure about dark souls. Simply copying the contents of the disc might not work either, I know you can create an image of the disc (using Nero or some such) and then using a virtual drive (daemon tools etc.) you can boot from that image. Not sure if that would be beneficial though, it also might not get past the initial issue Wozza mentioned about verification.

That said, putting a game onto a SSD probably wont have any impact on the FPS you will see during the game, it should make the load times shorter though :)

It may be that whoever made it, made the game so you must use the disk. That way you cant sell it on/give it away type of thing.

Not exactly sure I'm fully understanding everything here... Disregarding the whole Steam thing (which Skyrim is suppose to require Steam regardless if you bought retail or not) all games on PC must first be installed, the CD is then used as verification (albeit this can be bypass by using a nocd crack which is legal provided you still own the disc). Obviously games on Steam don't get installed however, which is also the case in which it is possible to create a working rip of a game that runs as is without installation.

So what I don't understand is you saying can you install the CD to the PC, when infact it wouldn't be running without being installed as I know of no games that run straight from the disk.
