That’s insane! I was in Melbourne back in 2007 and hired a 4x4 to drive down the great ocean road somewhere to the southern tip with a couple of friends

my memory is hazy but on that map it’s literally a tiny blip in the bottom right corner. We drove down and stayed over at some kind of YMCA place for travellers and then drove back, but that was 2 solid days of driving and most of it on dirt tracks through dense jungle.

The furthest I've done was Uxbridge into London, then up to Dunwich in Suffolk overnight, that was 140 miles, took about 12 hours in all

If I can't cycle or walk it in less than an hour, then I'm using the car (or the train if it's to a city centre).

Has anybody watched Cycle around Japan ? A regular show on NHKJapan that takes you around the country in 30-50 minute episodes, meeting people and highlighting the cultural joys to be found...too old and creaky to ride the roads, but i've enjoyed seeing most of the British Isles in my time.
