Took my first missteps to ending up with a bricked laptop..

Came back from Ireland last week, and on the way back home, something got caught around my feet. While sorting that out, the bag which contained my Vortex IV fell full weight to the ground. At the time was too tired to care. This evening though, I opened the bag, found a missing bit, a dvd drive which doesn't close cleanly, and an exposed (and pulled) screen hinge. Far as I can see the innards (wifi/RAM/CPU/SSD/etc still work but now have a bit which needs to attach onto the top of the heatsink grid - next to the hinge) and stop a little bit from springing out.
I don't see any mention of doing this but if all the innards from this machine (bought just under a year ago) work, is it possible for a rebuild by PCS as all the components work? Or would getting a new machine outright, and sending compatible bits to PCS ( such as upgraded wifi, SSD, RAM)?
I don't mean PCS should do the repair or ship it for free. I'm willing to pay for those who 'should' be familiar with the hardware and do it faster and better than what I can. My experience with hardware stops at towers and mini boxes. In my years, my fingers simply are just not nimble enough to safely do laptop hardware repairs. :(

Yes laptops are a pain in the neck to do just about anything to.

PCS would probably be able to carry out any repairs needed but it may end up being fairly costly. You would probably need to call the call centre and arrange for it to be shipped back to PCS and then get a price for repairs based on a hands on assessment.

PCS may be unwilling to transfer the components to a new build for reasons of warranty, but I really have no idea.

On a side note it might be worth checking if you home insurance covers you for such damage.

Hmm..
I'll give PCS a buzz tomorrow. If shipping/repairs is close to buying some mouldy old used one, having known hardware is probably worth it. I suspect things will be too expensive. In that case, I'll just whip out the old epoxy which will give a nice "home made" appearance. ;)

[edit: Just looked at RoyalMail's page. For a medium parcel,
"Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm® More details Guaranteed by 1pm next day Up to £500 for loss or damage Tracked £26.60*".
Unless the financial cost of repairs is simply too much or nor available, the time saved not messing about, is worth it
I'll blame RyanAir for this mishap. The seating doesn't allow a comfortable and relaxing journey back. ;) ]

[edit again - Few days ago, just reattached the parts with JB Weld. The screen's hinge is still off a bit, but at least the machine works]
