Hi all,

ive recently came into a bit of money and ive been talking all year about wanting a new gaming pc, my budget is £1100, would throw an extra 50 at it if it meant a lot to the build, what i also need is a new monitor for this build,

i have no build to link as im just lost with what to look for, i want a pc that will last me a good while and will run games on the highest settings, i realize im probably asking for to much but its gotta be worth a punt, so before i build something i dont need ect, i was wondering if anyone could recommend me a build for around my budget.

must include a nice monitor, bigger the better, thanks so much in advance :)

( girlfriend is shouting due to spending more on this pc that we did on her car, and if i dont order it soon i think shes going to spend it haha )

The GTX 1060 isn't going to run all modern games at the "highest" settings, although there are some games that even a GTX 1080 will struggle with at 1080p 60fps on the "highest" settings - simply because some games have brutally demanding and/or placebo graphics settings.

My GTX 970 is more or less crushed by Deus Ex Mankind Divided on the highest settings, but turning a few things down to the "very high" levels gives me fluid 60fps pretty much throughout, without an appreciable drop in fidelity.

So beware of the words "highest" or "maximum" settings.

A GTX 1060 will run most demanding modern games somewhere from high to ultra. The rest of the platform gives a solid basis for future upgrades. The monitor is 1080p 144hz.

Hi Oussebon,

thanks for your reply dude, a few quick questions about this build, assuming I wanted to upgrade something what would give me the most bang for my buck, my friend has recommended an SSD and I quite like the Idea of this, also would I see a major improvement to performance if I upgraded the RAM from 8 to 16 Gb ? What about upgrading the processer to the 8600 k ? or the gfx card to the 6gb 1060?

Also what resolution could I except on the monitor?

thanks again!

assuming I wanted to upgrade something what would give me the most bang for my buck,
That depends how much buck you've got.

An SSD will make Windows, programs, and games installed to it load faster. But it won't improve framerate. Also it's easy to add as a future upgrade so investing more into the core spec now makes more sense.

also would I see a major improvement to performance if I upgraded the RAM from 8 to 16 Gb
There would be somewhere from a tiny increase to 0 increase in performance. That said, you may well want 16gb RAM one day and buying it outright saves the hassle of making sure what you buy in the future is compatible.

What about upgrading the processer to the 8600 k ?
The performance is very similar to the i5 8400.

or the gfx card to the 6gb 1060?
It is more powerful than the 1060 3gb by about 10%. Prices vary but it can sometimes be £50-70 more expensive. And you will one day want to upgrade the GPU anyway - I'm not sure that day will be put off by very much by getting the 6gb one. That said, the cost as a % of the overall build is pretty small, so you are getting a bit more gaming power with the 6gb one.

If I were going to sink more cash at the outset into that build it'd probably be the RAM. Especially if you alt-tab a lot in games and run shedloads of browser tabs.

They're all perfectly valid things to spend your cash on, but none of them wins a knockout blow in my eyes from a bang for buck POV.
