Thinking of getting a new PC. Want it future proofed. How are these specs?

So I've had my old rig for 9 years and want to buy a new custom build. I've saved a lot for this and am ready to purchase it.
Please let me know how the specs look and if anything to improve on, any issues with airflow, etc. PC Specialist said that they will mount the CPU cooler on top if able to. Would this be the best option?

I am a gamer and currently use a BEN-Q 144hz monitor. Appreciate any assistance :)

Looks like a good budget. I would hold off until at least the end of the month as the next generation CPU & Chipset is being released by AMD. Even if you didn't want the latest, you will likely save a little on the current X3D offerings.

There are a number of changes outside of that though.

Thanks Scott! I will hold off until the end of the month, are there any immediate changes you would recommend with this build?

You definitely don't want to be going for a 4080 for 1080p bud. I would pull it back a bit to a 4070Ti Super and spend the savings on a 1440p monitor.

4080 is a 4k 144hz monitor. Pointless wasting cash and pushing for a high end system on a low end monitor.

Okay I will look at the 4070 TI and get a new monitor. Would the SSD's I provided be good enough? Want everything to run as smoothly and fast as possible. Would the case I provided give a good enough airflow, I see that yours didn't include case fans, is it worth getting them anyway?

I wouldn't opt for the 990. They're not good value. The ones I've selected are the best value performance options. If you wanted a bit more performance on the secondary drive you could opt for the P44 also. It's not really worth it yet though as direct access is still in its infancy. The second drive that I've selected is still blisteringly fast.

You won't need extra case fans. PCS will install one as standard, there are 3 on the case to begin with and the AIO has another 2 fans. If you wanted a better aesthetic inside you could opt for the H150i, which has 3 fans and would look very similar to the front fans from the inside.

You could also save some further money if you already have a OS (saves £100) and if you do not want the platinum warranty (up to £135)

The case can be chosen, i chose a midrange case , but other members may be able to advise of better cases for this build?

This way you then have room for simple upgrades of parts going forward and not a whole new setup - otherwise it defeats the whole purpose of a customised PC and available future upgrade.

Hopefully this helps

The selected motherboard is out of stock at the moment, any suggestions? Or should I just wait for it to come back in. Either going to get a 4070 ti super or see how much the 50 series cards are.

Hi matt, I believe the motherboard ETA of stock is due in 2 days or there around 29/11/2024(from when i did the previous quote as i also have this on preorder myself!) but not sure how many preorders they currently have. Given it’s near the festive period people are buying more than normal.

There is alternatives , such as the high spec GIGABYTE X870E AORUS MASTER (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) but this is at an additional cost of £208 but unless you are looking to go further in regards to more powerful specs the recommendation above should be fine with very smooth experience.

There is also cheaper alternatives but this would be a downgrade slightly, so recommendation is to wait until 29th November and see if you are still getting the out of stock message.

Also please be aware the link above has also changed the PSU back to a 750W - not sure why but the recommendations would be 1200w

The only thing you would then need to replace within a year if you wanted to, would be the GPU but prices are yet to be announced until around Q1 of 2025 once formal announcements come out for the new generation.

I’m still new here myself, but i’m sure others could look and advise if i’ve not got something right, their advice is welcomed :)

Thank you so much Stephen! I’ll definitely wait until it comes in stock, I see the RTX 4070 ti is also selling out fast. I wonder if @Scott could give an opinion too comparing to what was previously suggested :) appreciate all the assistance.

At this late stage, it just doesn’t make any sense to be buying a current gen GPU.

They stopped production at the beginning of November so stocks are drying up and therefor prices far higher than their worth.

That’s coupled with the fact the 5070 will be announced at CES in January and is confirmed for a q1 release date, and will likely be around a 4080 in performance for significantly less money.

CPUs are also in a strange place currently with both the 9800x3d and the 7800x3d being in short supply leading to high prices.

I wouldn’t buy now personally and that’s the general advice from professionals too
