I've been having a think [ I'm having re-thinks every day ] whether the Defiance 11 with i7-6700HQ , 16GB Hyper X , Nividia GTX 970M , 2 X 750GB 7200 rpm and a 256 Samsung SM951 MSATA drive for £1341 is better value than the Octane 11 with a desktop processor of i7-600 and the exact same specs which comes to £1590.00 . Is it just the processor we're paying for here , what else makes the Octane 11 a desktop replacement laptop ?
I'm leaning quite heavily towards the Defiance .
What do you think , Guys ?
it really depends on you and how much more you can benefit from a desktop cpu

The Octane also has a G-Sync screen which the Defiance doesn't. Depends on whether you think that's worth the extra or not.

OK , I'll be honest , I did have to google ' G-Sync ' to discover what it was - it's advantageous to Gamers but does it help Photographers at all - can you calibrate a G-Sync screen ?

Hi Guys - though this is directed mostly at Stephen - I see that PCS have put the older Octane 17" for sale again [ I believe you have this laptop , Stephen ] - configuring it with the Nividia 970M , 2 Hard Drives of 750GB WD Black 7200rpm and an M.2 SSD Drive of 256GB Samsung SM951 and a processor of i5-4690 I can get the price down to £1373.00 , the only drawback is the original Octane does not have IPS but is that really a problem for photography ?
Also is the i5-4690 good enough for the Nividia 970M ?

It's purely for gaming as far as I'm aware as it's all to do with balancing Frames per second when playing games.
If it's just for photography then you wont really have any advantages.

When I configured the Octane 1 17" the other day PCS were offering a choice of graphics with 970M or 980M , tonight when I configure I'm only getting the 980M - is it a glitch ?
It still gives a choice in the description , just not in the configuring .

The lack of 970M is probably a stock issue. I find the Octane screen fine, I do not do a lot of photo work but it has been great when I have needed to zoom in when adding paths to pics, there has been no problem with definition. My only issue with the older Octane is is it really worth it, no sure how much cheaper than getting the newer one and that does have the most up to date CPU.

Thank you , Stephen as always - date of purchase will be late Feb / early March - I'm still thinking - at the moment it's between the 17.3" Defiance or Octane 2 and today a PC came into the equation - I've always set my heart on a laptop but I wouldn't rule out a PC completely , it's just that I would be lost [ mostly ] in the configuring of a PC and also room is a problem .

I have a 2TB External Hard Drive for storing photographs -

So , if I buy a Defiance 17.3" or an Octane 17.3" laptop - would it be better to stick a Samsung 250GB SSD with a 750GB 7200rpm or 2 x 750GB 7200rpm with an MSATA Drive of 256GB Samsung SM951 ?
