TF2 trading?

Once you start it's addictive.
I stopped a while ago after I made a profit.
I have probably paid about £100 in total for items off the market and have sold them through trading and made about £450. I used to idle as well and then use the stuff I got from that to buy keys which I would then sell on the market.
Helped me pay for quite a few games :)

I've probably put in £15 or so from occasionally buying keys. I tend to trade keys out for games so my backpack is never worth much at any one time, but I think I've made around £100, give or take in total, but then I can't remember every trade I've ever made.

It seems insane the amount of money people have made out of this, and for the life of I just can't work out how/why! :) I suppose it just feeds into my whole problem with FB/social media games where people spend stupid money on virtual things. Saying that, I'd love to do it, but I think I ducked out of TF2 just around the time this was all starting up. I did find one thing in my Steam TF2 inventory that was apparently worth £1.30...cha ching!

I have no idea what my inventory is worth but I do know I have a ton of items from TF2 back when I was playing it, i'll have to check what theyre worth sometime.

How do I check what something is worth?

One way would be to go to backpack.tf and log in with your steam credentials. If you then go onto your backpack page then it can tell you what your entire backpack is worth either through the steam market or tf2 trading, and you can check the value of individual items.

I have no idea what you said there, just take it as read that I barely even know how to find my own inventory :p

Well if you want a more indepth guide -
Go to the website backpack.tf (it's the main source of prices for tf2 items)
Click "Sign in with Steam" in the top right, and fill out your steam username and password. When that's done you should be automatically redirected to backpack.tf
On the downwards arrow next to your username (top right, where the sign in option was), and select "backpack"
You get a set of values for your entire inventory on the right, from raw metal/keys to cash value, and you can check the value of any item in your inventory by hovering over it, or any item at all by putting the name into the search bar at the top of the page.

Plenty of people trade for items because they want to use them in game. For example I sold an unusual hat to a friend for £27 because he wanted to have his character wear it in game.

Sure, it's fun. It's got a good community too for the most part.
Obviously better games are available but for a free game this one is great :)

Yeah I would recommend it, it's a fun game, it's the only FPS I play on a regular basis. All the others tend to be swamped with communities that are far too serious for their own good, but TF2 (apart from a few idiots) has a pretty fun community.
