Tethering or Streaming?

Hi , I want to use part of my data allowance to transfer updates to my car satnav. Would this be classed as streaming or Tethering ,as I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to such things

If you have the data allowance spare I shouldn't think it matters, unless tethering is prohibited by your phone provider? If so, possibly a free vpn service may mask the traffic, if you're inclined to a little rule bending. Or, you can likely ask for an add on data plan just for the month / data quota. I take it you are out and about thus cant use a pc or such like?
