I've had my pc for a month or so now but the PC wont shutdown, it will just reboot back to the log-on screen. I don't know if this is a problem with the base unit or because I'm using a SSD?

How are you shutting down?
If your pressing the power button on the tower it could be set to restart.

You should be able to change this in the bios under the power management. Let me know if you need help doing this.

Cheers LFFPicard I will

I use the shutdown option in the start up menu but when the PC just starts up again I end up fat fingering the power button to turn it off, but I don't know if this is going to have a detrimental effect on the OS and hardware down the line if its not shutting down gracefully... bring back disk park

What's probably happening is that something is causing the PC to crash during shutdown and Windows is set to reboot after a crash. You can check this by disabling automatic reboot after a crash, to do that go to Control Panel > System and click Advanced System Settings in the menu on the left. Click the Advanced tab in the box that opens and then click the Settings button in Startup & Reovery (the bottom one). Uncheck the Automatically Restart box.

Now shutdown again and see what happens. If it shuts down then it is crashing on shutdown and Windows was automatically rebooting. Now you have to find out why it's crashing on shutdown. If you go to the Windows Event Viewer you should see event log entries written there for the crash.

You could also manually stop all unnecessary programs (via Task Manager) before shutdown and see if it still crashes (you might want to re-enable Automatic Restart in that case).

Are you saying that disabling Automatic Restart on a system failure does not stop it rebooting?

Yep, don't understand it myself? I've checked that theres no background programmes that are showing errors in the log to cause this problem. Maybe when I get Windows 10 installed it may help with the problem.

Hmmm, I don't understand that either then. I would strongly suggest a reinstall of Windows and the drivers and then a gradual reinstall of the third party software, checking that the system shuts down properly after each install.

It would, in my opinion, be a colossal mistake to upgrade a known faulty system to Windows 10. If you're going to upgrade to 10 I really do recommend that you get your existing system running properly, and a reinstall would seem your best bet I think.
