Suggestions for the Forum

Hey!

Here are some suggestions that perhaps might make the forum a bit more user friendly.

(a)
Perhaps you can add Forum to the title in the Website Feedback/Suggestions section so that all stuff related to feedback on PCS's stuff on the web can be found at one and the same place.

(b)
Case Request? What case do you want to see in the future?
Wouldn't it be an idea to have a more general Request section where the Case Request post could form a sub-section? I think this would make the forum look a bit more organised and it would help the reader to find stuff more easily. Perhaps Requests could even be a sub-section to Website/Forum Feedback and Suggestions?

(c)
A sticky somewhere (perhaps several places) with an updated moderator list, preferably with some information about each moderator (special areas of expertise, etc.). I think people in general have a greater deal of confidence in moderators and staff than they do in normal users when it comes to advice regarding specs and stuff. Presumably they are threby also likely to want to seek out moderators for specific/private advice as well and so it would be useful to find all moderators at one place.

(d)
I really, really like the Check this Spec! Section. I think most users do and I think that it is a great selling point for PCS. However, with the increased activity on the forum and more specs being added everyday, perhaps there should be a sticky about how to write an informative post in order to receive the best help available. I am thinking here of things such as:

- Informative title
- Budget
- Main use of the system
- Any special preferences
etc.

Perhaps such a post could be added to The easy way to post your specification to our forum post? By the way, I think that post should be stickied in Check this Spec! Section.

(e)
I think it would be a good idea to have a specific section relating to all things regarding financing. I obviously don't know what the ratio is of finance to cash sales, and hence have no idea how much you guys at PCS value it, but it surely is a good thing that the finance option is there! I am sure that some users go with PCS solely because of this option. Since there are so many finance options out there on the tinternet in general, it might be good to have all information specific to PCS at one place.

Have some more ideas, but this is already getting a bit too long... Anyway, these are just some friendly suggestions and I hope you take them as such :)

I strongly agree with point d) (all other points are also good ideas!)

Why point d in particular? It would help us get through more specs. At the moment I have to re-read a post af ew times to draw out all the relevant info I need: Price, usage, particular requests / needs / musts

If it was all organised into clear bullet points or something it becomes very easy to figure out what spec would best suit the individual. =]

Doesnt stop them from adding some more to the end of their post too that can be read :)

Yeah point D is absolutely spot on. If someone posts without a price or something then it's twice as much work to spec them a system because you have to choose their current selection first just to find out how much it cost, for example.

I've just realised I basically repeated what was in your post already.

Whenever I skimread, I fail so badly.

I also strongly agree with D, it's really annoying when people post builds without the actual price of it or a budget to work towards. C could be interesting lol, A and B could work well and for E yeah either a sub-forum or just a "sticky" somewhere.

Though admittedly, even if there was a sticky posting such things it certainly wouldn't eliminate the problem (ok, so I'm a bit of a pessimist at times), but if people did follow it it would definitely be useful.

C could be interesting lol
I think 'Eek' is the word you were looking for :)

Could we cash in Rep points with PCS for money off vouchers in Wetherspoons ? I have 7 points i think, if I could work towards say 10 and get a free pint of Rev James on Friday that'd be ace - some people have a LOT of rep points, please drink responsibly. This could have a detrimental effect to the quality of posts, especially soon after last orders.

Thanks for the suggestions Voices. :) +rep

a. Done :)

b. Good idea, but we try not to source too many different components. Cases however seem to be at the heart of many gamers, and therefore we ask people to tell us what they're looking for.

c. Again, great idea. The problem is with forum posts though that even stickys don't get noticed by enough people. What we tend to find is that while users are browsing the forum and asking questions, they tend to get at least one mod/admin responding, which helps increase their confidence.

d. I would love it if users actually listened to our advice before posting, but I'm sure you'll agree that most users have their questions in their head, and post before reading through rules and suggestions. For example, we've made stickys on how to post your spec to our forums already: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forum...-way-to-post-your-specification-to-our-forums! but unfortunately people do not notice this until it's too late. I have copied this over the the "check this spec" thread though - I hadn't noticed that it wasn't there anymore... :)

e. This is a good point, and we will consider setting this up, because finance is tricky to get your head round as the best of times. The laws around finance are changing in January as as a result our finance packages will also be changing slightly in January, so this may be a good time to start a finance section!

Thanks for the advice, if you have any further suggestions please let us know! :)

Error report: in all but the home/office specification configurator sections of the website
the "---THERMALTAKE EXTREME MODULAR POWER SUPPLIES---" header is listed in the power supply drop down list but there isn't any thermaltake power supplies to choose from.

I'm new to the forum, so maybe i just haven't found it yet but...
Is there a way to see all threads that only you've replied too, ordered by last post ? similar to the What's New page.

I think we've found our designated driver in Phoenix as well ! I'll keep my eye peeled for "cash in points" button.
