just wanted to share an experience with you all in case people were having the same issues as me...
anyway, picked up a pc recently from pcspecialist, awesome graphics card, monitor and CPU (check sig) but was noticing a few issues in specific games that I was playing... namely Skyrim, Crysis2 and AC: Revelations. The issue was a strange one, basically although all the games were capped out at 60fps with vsync enabled I still noticed a juddering or stuttering on screen when images were moving (very noticeable with horizontal movement).
Skyrim was fixed by playing it in windowed mode @ 1080p then using a 3rd party mod called "simple borderless window" to maximise the screen.
Crysis2 seemed to get fixed by alt+entering to make it windowed then re-applying alt+enter to fullscreen it again.
AC: Revelations had no fix, I uninstalled the game due to the juddering motion I was seeing.
it was seriously getting on my nerves, I tried some 3rd party programs to force triple buffering in games but this didn't fix the problem. Eventually I game to the conclusion that it's some sort of vsync issue, when games go over 85fps or so the monitor/graphics card has trouble syncing frames and a noticeable frame "skip" is seen. I wondered if there was any inbuilt frame rate limiter in CCC like nvidia has but there isn't *sigh* so managed to find a little video recording program called dxtory which has an inbuilt frame rate limiter, set it to 60, booted up AC: Revelations and it's buttery smooth. Same thing fixed Crysis2 and Skyrim.
I'm confused as to:
a.) why games have issues capping at 60 when that should be done automatically with vsync (shouldn't it?) and
b.) why isn't an optional frame rate cap built into AMD software!?
anyway - if anyone is seeing these stuttering issues I'd urge you to try dxtory - I'm not sure if it's a problem with my monitor or gfx drivers but at least it's fixed for now
edit - supposedly I'm not the only one who has these issues, apparently with great frame rate comes great responsibility A few people have noted that 120hz monitors don't have this problem so I'd urge anyone who's thinking of getting a powerful gaming PC (with an AMD card) to consider a 3d capable, 120hz monitor to avoid vsync issues that I've experienced
