Not really sure where to post this so I guess here will do.

If I buy the 780 with my desktop from pc specialist, then I assume its the default one? I mean like its not going to be the evga one or another brand version. I found a gtx 780 online which im thinking about geting instead of the PCS one and I just wanted to know if there would be any downsides to getting one from a custom brand? of which this one is. Might be a silly question but for the price of the one im thinking of, I feel there must be something different with it!

The only downside is the lack of warranty from PCS, it might take longer to get an RMA sorted from a 3rd party retailer and you will probably get minimal improvements in fps compare to the reference model.

Yeah I dont think I want to take any risks considering my previous need for quick repairs so ill go with PCS I think, also i heard someone saying that PCS can overclock your system? Is that possible and if so how do i go about doing it? Thanks for the quick reply!

Overclock the CPU without a noticeable improvement gaming wise, they won't overclock your gpu.

Ahhh okay, is it a case of asking them to do it? Or will I have to pay for something else?

generally, reference cards are made directly by Nvidia or AMD. Non reference cards are made by other companies, such as palit, evga, msi, asus, powercolor et al. And have extra features such as a different heatsink, or they are factory overclocked. Different brands offer different warranties some offer only one year, some offer more. Evga for example give you three years warranty (you still have the first year with the retailer ofc)

the companies above do also sell reference cards with their respective brand on, although, typically they are still reference cards.

PCS generally sell reference cards, but mainly Nvidia Palit reference cards, or powercolor AMD cards.

My personal preference are EVGA cards, I've found my flawless. Quiet, cool, powerful and looks good.

Ahh okay thanks for the info Tom, so do you know if there are any extra features with the non reference palit Nvidia cards? Or are they basically just stock?

For what its worth i have the "stock" GTX 780 from PCS and its really good, i can pretty much run any game i want on the max setting no lag, a few games give me a little lag but all the games i play at the moment do not, my main game is League of Legends, i know its not the most graphic intense game but i get a solid 200-400 fps on the max graphics settings depending on the game mode, i have achieved easy 60+ fps on max settings on all games i have played

games like Call of duty (not sure if anyone plays anymore LOL) bioshockk infinite, assassins creed, counter strike, world of warcraft, diablo 3, world of warplanes/tanks, the elder scrolls both offline and online, hearthstone starcraft, i mean literally any game i have no trouble on max settings

i run it with i7 4770 (non K version) and a RoG maximus hero mobo if interested,
also just got my 3rd monitor up and running and still working like a charm

hopefully gives you something to think about
