SSD query & Splash screen

If I were to buy a 120GB OCZ VERTEX 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD with my CAD pc from PCspecialist, can you please confirm the following:

1.Checks would undertaken to ensure that Windows 7 has disable disk defragmentation, Superfetch, Prefetcher and ReadyBoost features (Trim enabled features) - many forums state that on occassion windows 7 does not automatically do this?

2.New Vertex V1.24 firmware would be installed?

3.Bios would be set to Ahci mode (recommended?).

Can you also confirm that this is a stable technology and if there is any further on going maintenance to ensure its longevity?

finally, do your computers come with a pcspecialist boot splash screen (would rather it did not have)?

Thank you,
Daryl

1. We ensure all the necessary features than would cause any problems are not performed, and that TRIM is enabled. However, we do not disable disk defragmentation, but it can only be performed if you open up the program and click run.

2. The most recent firmware at the time the drive was manufactured is installed. AS the time from manufacture to integration is relatively low, it's likely a very recent, if not the most recent firmware is installed.

3. The BIOS will be set to AHCI mode.

4. SSD technology is stable, and will become the norm in the future. Support will be ongoing for SSD technology.

5. We do not use our own splash screen - we leave the original ASUS splash screen on.

Thanks PCS for detailed feedback - Its now decision time - SSD or WD black 640gb mmm!

If I do go for an ssd, will it be ok for me to also install a spare normal HD (which i already have) for storage purposes without causing conflict i.e. AHCI, trim enabled etc.

Thanks again,

Daryl

Yes, you can use a HDD as a storage drive and the SSD as the main drive. I don't believe there is any additional configuration required to do so and I doubt there is - I can't say for certain as I have no experience with SSD's.

SSD's are stable but are more prone to the odd flaky period than the traditional HDD.

For example i have had quite a few bad sectors since going SSD which caused windows to fail on boot.

This is the price you pay for cutting edge tech when measuring it against tried and tested 20 year old design mechanical drives.

OK, watch this space in 20 years time, I should be able to buy a cheap (and stable) SSD.....can't wait!! :)

Given that it's a Sandy bridge system - I would assume the BIOS will be configured to AHCI by default.
