Special Beast - 17.3" Vortex III ordered!

After much procrastination, I have just managed to order my beast and I'm extremely excited to the point of salivating whilst awaiting its delivery.

Whereas I tried to specify a high-end spec rig for maximum performance my only worry is that I read in a different thread (link below) that the Matte display surprisingly had a grainy effect. I can only hope that mine is built with the AUO B173HW01 v.5. as opposed to the ChiMei N173HGE screen

A beast indeed! I would only suggest you go for the better thermal compound, also definitely the Zalman NC3000S - the one you've got is for up to 15,6" plus the NC3000S has had some great reviews, and maybe up the warranty a notch or two.

I've had my 17" vortex a couple of weeks with the matt screen and frankly I'm blown away at how amazing it is! I'm used to a good Dell semi pro 24" so I'm used to a good screen .

I had a gaming laptop from Rock bought a few years ago with a gloss screen (it actually got good reviews the extreme 770 ) and omg it was total crap ! I could hardly bring myself to use it- reflections were awful even when it wasn't particularly bright.

You will love it I'm 100% certain :)

Pips333 I'm really hoping that I will love the 17" Matte screen as I need every inch of screen real estate that I can get as I intend to run multiple VM's in Server Farms. After placing my order over the weekend, I contacted Sales support to stipulate my preference for the AUO B173HW01 v.5 and they claimed their build team would oblige.


I just wanted to add that my current Laptop is a Dell - Inspiron 15R with a 15.6" Glossy screen and sporting 8GB RAM and I must say it has served its purpose and it was definitely time to upgrade. Apart from the glare from the glossy screen, if I had 3 VMs running simultaneously in the background the system lagged severely.

I'm really hoping that my Vortex will give me all the power I need.
