Why not try the onboard sound and then get a dedicated card if you decide it's needed? Easy upgrade to fit yourself.

To get the full benefit of high end speakers or headphones a sound card is the way to go.
I have the Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Titanium,a lot better than onboard, but I have a few problems with it and wouldn't recommend it to be honest.

I have a sound card :) awesome :)

erm, is yourt sound system via optical cable? (spdif?) cause if it is, then you may as well get a half decent card that gives you Dolby Digital 5.1 in games!

A quick google of the logitech speakers suggests it is digital, so I'd strongly suggest you go for a PCI-E sound card, (would sit above your top 680)
-Asus DX OR better, I have this, works a treat and only 50 quid!
-Creative recon 3d or better.

Also what CPU cooler are you going for? If you look at my new pics, you can see my asus dx and how it just fits under my cpu cooler.

Hi tom the cpu cooler im going for is the super quiet 22dba tripple copper heat pipe intel cpu cooler as I do not trust water cooling :) not on a £2300 system anyway!
and you raise a good point over the connectivity of the speakers, if I can use optical i will :) so maybe i will get the creative recon 3d professional or champion :D

i'm adding a creative soundblaster zx card to my 1 month old system tonight (have been waiting for it for a month, and didn't wake up when royal mail tried to deliver on saturday!!)
The new Z,ZX and ZXR cards from creative are supposed to be very good, and are not bugged by crappy drivers (as creatives past reputation is famous for) so may be worth a punt. I'll let you know what i think of it after i've installed it.
(the z card oem is retailing at £56 at the moment, a steal!)

I've installed the card and currently have mixed feelings. The sound is fine and is "different" to the on board sounds on my sabertooth z77 board, not entirely sure if its better for music at this point. The sound for games is certainly much better. I do have to say that the onboard sound nowadays is very good. My old computer had an Audigy 2 ZS platinum pro soundcard which was excellent and i would say the ZX is as good.

What I would say is it is probably worth getting the Soundblaster Z (if you dont need the external audio module.....only good if u put headphones into your pc a lot and like to be able to change the vol of the headphones using that dial) as you can get the OEM card for about £50 which is a steal.

Still i think i need to play around with the equaliser settings etc for music before i judge the card. Certainly if you have digital speakers they are better.
