I'm sure these will spark a debate so here goes...

Air Cooling: I will be Overclocking a 3770k at some point and I'm wondering what air cooler would be best. I know PCS stock the Spire Thermax but I was also looking at the Noctua nh-d14. Which is best or is there better?

On a different subject of speakers I have been looking to get a good 5.1 system, I would go for the z506 but I understand its not all that great so after searching high and low for seeminglyextinct and very expensive systems I have found this..

Any thoughts on this and other options, looking to spend £200 max and I have found the Edifier system for £190

Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions! ;)

on the sound system, note that you will need a very good sound card that will output/encode into Dolby Digital 5.1, then make sure what ever you buy an decode Dolby digital 5.1, to me that one looks more like a hifi system as opposed to a digital sound system , which is ideally what ya want for connecting to ya pc.

Cooling wise, the spire would be ace, or the noctua. but note that the noctua IS massive and you will NEED a big case, OR you could look at one of the liquid coolers.

I agree with tom on the cooling the Spire TherMax Eclipse II is an amazing collar. I have my pc hooked up to a receiver & the sound is epic.

Holy crap dude that's what I spent hours looking for and never found for less than several hundred squids! You sir are a legend!

Is this sound card right - Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Titanium? I was just going with the mobo on board sound so I'm guessing an upgrade is better.

The case is a coolermaster storm trooper, that seems big enough for that cooler surely! I'll look into the spire more though.

I just purchased lots of Noctua fans. I find them amazing personally. Add em to the case or cpu cooler.

I replaced the stack FAT BOY II cooler fans with 2 Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans and must say they are great. I have the I7 2700K Overclocked @ 4.8Ghz Idle temps are same as was Idle when not overclocked with the stock fans. +-

Get the Asus Xonar D2X Soundcard and install it yourself it's not harder than putting a snes cartridge in the console

Right so the cooler is sorted its just this sound issue.

I have looked at several sound cards and speaker set ups. by far the best speakers for price and features would be the yamaha get up recommended earlier.
Only problem is now the Asus sound card or a creative sound card. the Asus seems to be geared towards only pc specific speakers (of which under £2-300 do not support dolby digital) or headphones. the Creative card has a butt tonne of connections but I am freaking out as to how good these darn things are!

here are the connections available

I would obviously love to utilize the dolby digital and so here lies my problem, how to connect on the Asus as its obviously just an optical toslink on the Creative?!

and here are the two cards im looking at

thanks for all of your help so far guys

So your saying that cable, an optical toslink will go into that Asus card? In the picture I cannot see an optical connection only coaxial? is there some sort of adapter provided?

just realised I have been looking at speakers and sound cards for roughly 15 hours now. no wonder its not making sense any more!

{edit-OK I finally spotted that they support coaxial and optical with an adapter included in a review. Sorry for the silly questions}

Is the Asus Xonar better than the Creative Sound Blaster though?

I'm running Noctua. I have no comparison to the other one you mentioned but I am very happy with Noctua tho. It is big, but not extremely big. It fits into smallest of HAF cases (I have HAF 912). Still it is on the big side of coolers.
Mountings, paste, fans, packaging, additional extras you get ... is top stuff thought. Once you get it packed in the box it just shows it is a quality product. You also get 2x top quality Noctua fans with it.

I think if I had a choice again of buying Noctua or not... (even considering quite high price) I would go for it... It also looks amazing and cools like crazy!

ps. You may check my profile pictures of how "big" it is in comparison to other components.
