Some keyboard keys are randomly disabled. PB50RD G

A few months ago the issue started with CTRL keys not working. I was used to press about 5 times the ctrl+alt+fn+shift combination to restore the functionality. Now CTRL, shift and alt on both sides are not working and nothing that I've tried works, like reboot, reinstalling drivers. They're not working even in safe mode. This can't be a physical failure as I never use the right ones.

If you create a bootable linux distro like this:

Boot from that, run a basic notepad and see if the keyboard works as expected in there. If it does, then it's a windows issue at a software level, if not, it's a hardware issue.

I've tried that with manjaro few weeks ago. Same results. Sometimes it works, just like in windows. If it's hardware, then why do they all stop working and where can I get a new keyboard if this is the only option? TIA

Is it inside warranty? If it is, PCS will replace it for free.... if not, you could contact them and ask them for a quote for a keyboard. They aren't often very expensive.

It is entirely possible that the ribbon cable is loose though. That coupled with temperature (does it work everytime when cold?) could be adding flex to the connection.

Contact PCS for an RMA

You might be able to log into your account and go to the spare parts section and see if keyboards are listed there - I did this with my old defiance and you can order then for delivery to you. However it’s best to talk to them first In case the keyboard isn’t easy to change.

The other alternative now is obviously to use a usb keyboard.

It could be a driver issue then for the keyboard. Have you tested it in Windows to ensure it works properly there with all drivers. ?

You may have to speak to PCS about Linux compatibility for this laptop.

It was a tiny dust particle stuck into the zif connector, that's why both keyboards had similar issues. Now I have no issues and two fully functional keyboards! :) Thanks for your help, guys!

Wow. Though I'm not surprised, dust is responsible for a lot of poor connections - that's why we often have people remove and reinsert cards (and zif connectors now!).

I'm thinking of starting a petition to get dust banned. What do you think?

Dust is pure evil. The dust in my house is especially prolific, and I can't find the cause.

Look in a mirror... :ROFLMAO:
It's not me, I know that because I dress and sleep in a Hazmat suit, and empty my dust content into the outside bins once a day.

I'm still convinced it's Pixies depositing their mining efforts for the day while I'm sleeping.
