Small "grumble" complaint with the delievery --- feedback for pcspecialist

Hi All,

We have today receieved our 2nd machine from PC pcspecialist. Bought 1st last year and was happy and this 2nd machine is a birthday presnet and upgrade for my wife's (very old) pc.

The reason for my post is that on the "Delivery Details" of our order -- we specifically asked "Please leave with neighbour @ Number xx" if out.

I knew the PC was coming next day and asked our neigbour to keep an eye out for it.

Long story short "Yodel" tried to deliever it to our address, our neigbour saw them and said they would take it and the driver refused stating it was "only" for the address on the label -- so basically ignoring the Delivery Details.

Obviously an inconvience to us and also made our neighbour feel bad and in turn me very angry @ the Delivery company.

I then had to ring Yodel (as they had left a missed you card) and evenutally got through to a human, rather than their automated system and asked for a redlivery.

The lady I spoke to was very abrubt, on the point of rude and instigated it must have been my fault for being out and that obviously there was not any special Delivery Details which I know there where.

I asked her to update their system which she did and I know as of today the parcel has been delivered as I can see my (nice kind) neighbours name has been updated on the tracking site.

Whilst I appreicate this is not PCspecalist themselves and the delivery company is very busy --- this has left a bad taste in the mouth and I feel let down by this part of the service which has otherwise been excellent.

Anyway, I wanted to post this on the basis it might help improve things and to give some honest feedback.

Would I use pcspecalist again ?? Yes I would, if however I could choose a better delievry company I would change that.

Cheers,

brian

HI,

I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, our contract with yodel given the expensive nature of the goods being delivered specifically states that no packages can be left with neighbours and signature can only be given from consignee address.

This info shows up on the driver’s handheld device. It is impossible for us to send some parcels with this instruction and some without. So in effect the driver was doing exactly the right thing. We have in the past had drivers who have left computers with builders next door to delivery address and neighbours, and never seen the pc again.

Please also note that, given the prevalence of fraud, our payments provider, only provides cover in the event of fraud if the package is delivered to the address that is checked at the time of order.

Ok I apprecate your quick reply and I do understand the comments made...... this said what is the point of the "Delivery Details" if these are on the order ? And should you not make it more obvious that no packages can be left with neighbours and signature can only be given from consignee address ?

There is a difference between builders and a "little old lady" !!!! I know rules are rules however I do still believe in good common sense and this was not it !!!

Lastly, perhaps you should re-consdier Yodel as a delivery company if they are this stringent and "rude" to people when trying to get things re-delivered perhaps they are not the best company.

I suspect this might come down to (your) costs and perhaps they are cheapest ???? I.e. you pay for what you get and in this case I feel they fell short.
If they are not cheapest, then maybe this is an isolated incident -- however I'm not making excuses on their behalf as the service lacked and the rudeness was not needed.

Perhaps they could listen to the calls they so carefully record to improve their customer services once in a while.

I'm not trying to turn this into a war of words -- I don't see the point, my intention was purely for feedback and I hope something that's useful to you....

Delivery details are useful if your address is tricky to be found, for example, my building is on the corner of two roads, my front door is not in fact on the road that my address is, also my front door doesn't actually have the house number on it, only the flat number - so that's what the delivery details bit can usefully be used for explaining :)

I believe PCS are on their 3rd courier already, they're all as bad as each other, personally I've never had issues with DHL/Yodel, but have had with others, it's a bit of pot luck really.

It is all useful feedback and very much appreciated.

The delivery details field gives the chance for specific instructions that may assis the driver, door around the back, ring me before arrival etc. I do agree that the rules about who can take delivery should be made clearer at the delivery details point.

Yodel has just been created by a merger (takeover?) of what was DHL's home delivery service, or something like that its not exactly my area but what i can tell you is that Yodel is the third UK courier we have used. City link and DHL have gone before and unfortunately the kind of issues we are hearing here are unique to none of them.

Again all feedback is appreciated and in turn we can pass the same feedback onto our courier representative.

OK fair points and I'll now shut-up ;-)

It's a shame and as you say they are on their 3rd courier, so obviously pcspecalist does care enough to change them from time to time and your probably right alot of these companies are as bad as each other. Looks like there is room in the market for a good/better courier service.

Perhaps there would be a way to put some sort of password or "pin" number onto the order, so that when delievered this had to be provided to the courier IF it was not the nominated address ?

e.g. as well as the specifc delievery details I had put "Please leave @ Neighbour xx" if out -- I could have added Neigbour will provide PIN.....

Just a thought...

All the above is good feedback.

I will however add one final point regarding a delivery just made this week in the Norwich area. The driver did not follow the instructions on his handheld device, but instead simply left the computer in the Porch at the delivery address.
This driver has since been dismissed for not doing his job properly. This incident is obvisouly more serious than delivering a package to a next door neighbour but the point I am trying to make is that it is more than the drivers job is worth if he doenst follow the delivery instructions and gets caught.

I'd just like to add I've had bad experiences with Yodel recently for delivering smaller electronics (not from PCS).

I think it would need to be a huge basket judging by the size of the boxes in the unboxing video's.
